an event was important not only for Ruma
or Srem, but also for our country. Ruma is
a good place for such an important event
because it has a beautiful cultural and civic
tradition, although the city itself is not older
than 400 years.
who love culture enjoyed the film, music,
literary and philosophical achievements of
Slavic peoples.
The participants were prominent representatives
of the academic community
and experts in the rich Slavic cultural heritage.
The topics were Slavic mythology,
Russian avant-garde, and there were reminders
of some unjustly forgotten names
of Slovenian Slavic. Thus, prof. Dr. Milo
Lompar spoke about the topic of “Dragiša
Vasić and Russian literature”. Great attention
was attracted by the lecture “The
Brothers Karamazov” by prof. Dr. Dragan
Stojanović. Special topic was devoted to
Sergei Yesenin, one of the most important
Slavic poets from the first quarter of the
20 th century, and his poetry and personality
were presented by prof. Dr. Miodrag J.
Sibinović.
– The intention of the organizers was to
position even more strongly this event on
Serbian and Slavic cultural map this year,
and to enhance promotion of their city
and municipality – says Želјko Stojanović,
Director of the City Library “Atanasije
Stojković”, the institution that is the founder
of this event. – When, six years ago, we
decided to launch the “Days of Slavic Literacy
and Culture”, we thought that such
Novel
The literary contest of Ruma City Library “Atanasije Stojković”
for the first and previously unpublished novel has been announced
recently. Last year, twenty three novels were submitted
at the contest, and this year, in all likelihood, the interest will be
even greater. The library is obliged to publish the winning novel
and cede to the author a certain number of copies of the book.
The contest is open until the end of September.
– Events such as the “Days of Slavic Literacy
and Culture” bring back hope that
culture can expect to have much better
days. We must be looking forward to everything
that pushes the boundaries of our
knowledge and raises our spiritual horizon
on a higher level. If we give up on the basis
of our tradition and culture, then we have
no future other than that of mere consumers
– said literary critic Mileta Aćimović
Ivkov at the opening ceremony.
Marija Stojčević, Deputy Mayor of
Ruma, said that the “Days of Slavic Literacy
and Culture” are the pride of this city
and the region:
– Appreciating the true cultural values,
we will continue to support culture and its
elevation to a higher level. I am sure that in
the coming years this event will draw the
attention of true cultural public.
All participants emphasized that the
Slavs themselves needs to rediscover their
deep codes of closeness and togetherness,
their unique culture and common cultural
roots. And gatherings of this kind contribute
most directly to this.
This year, the “Days of Slavic Literacy
and Culture” were attended by guests
from abroad. The opening ceremony was
adorned by Russian band “Zvonica” m
Omsk, which nurtures the musical tradition
of the Siberian Cossacks. Last summer,
the ensemble of folk dances and songs
“Branko Radičević” from Ruma performed
in Orel, in the European part of Russia, at
the International Folklore Festival “Eagle
Mosaic”. Contacts were established
then, which led to this nice performance
of “Zvonica” in Ruma. In addition to the
“Days of Slavic Literacy and Culture”,
“Zvonica” also had concerts in the Russian
Cultural Center in Belgrade, in Sremska
Mitrovica, Hrtkovci and Putinci. For
guests from Omsk, which is five thousand
kilometers away from Ruma, a city tour
and visit to monasteries of Fruška Gora
were organized. s
