Summer Reading Challenge<br />
Organised by the Reading Agency (www.<br />
readingagency.org.uk) and the UK public<br />
library network since 1999, the Summer<br />
Reading Challenge is the UK’s biggest<br />
annual reading promotion for children<br />
aged 4 to 11.<br />
The Summer Reading Challenge offers<br />
free access to books in the library during<br />
the summer holidays. Throughout the<br />
challenge, library volunteers will support<br />
the children, helping them to discover<br />
new authors and to explore a wide range<br />
of different types of books and ways of<br />
reading.<br />
How does the challenge work? Children<br />
sign up at the library and receive the<br />
Big Friendly Read collector folder. They<br />
can then borrow and read at least six<br />
library books of their own choice during<br />
the summer, collecting special cards to<br />
complete their folder and rewards along<br />
the way. Library volunteers are on hand<br />

to advise and children who complete<br />

summertime activities and story time<br />

Dunholme Camera Club<br />
Our meetings in August at the camera<br />
club are for club members only because<br />
The Old School, where we hold our<br />
meetings, is closed for the installation<br />
of a new kitchen. Currently there aren’t<br />
any kitchen facilities available. We will<br />
be resuming activities in September so<br />
make sure you look out for what’s<br />
going on in next month’s edition of the<br />
NEWS. In the meantime, if you want<br />
any information about the camera club,<br />
