If you don’t have a barbecue or you don’t want to go to the trouble of getting it out, why not treat yourself by getting down to Manor Park over the August Bank Holiday and join in the celebration (page 5). It promises to be a great weekend for all ages with plenty of refreshments or you can even bring your own picnic. Saturday evening sounds very special but you will need to get tickets for that evening’s entertainment. I had the pleasure of attending Sundae Saturday in July (pages 24 and 25) where many residents came to sample the teas and ice creams while supporting a very good cause. The Greek philosopher, Epicurus, believed the prime good was pleasure; but the height of pleasure for Epicurus was to sit and converse with a friend in the back garden in the sun and, no doubt, with a nice cup of tea, if it had been available in 320 b.c. I’m with Epicurus on this one. Summer time is also a time for relaxing with a good book. The library network is working with the Reading Agency to encourage children to make use of our libraries (page 20) so why not call into the library this month and see how new authors can excite a child’s imagination. There will be a temporary bus station in Lincoln staring sometime in August. We hear that it may start on Sunday 14th but could not get confirmation of the date from Stagecoach (page 8). I’m sure all regular passengers will agree that a modern and more comfortable bus station is welcome; a little inconvenience now, however, is part of the price that we have to pay for it.
