Affordable homes support
LOCALITY (the national network
of community-led organisations) and
NALC (National Association of Local
Councils) are urging local (parish and
town) councils to help tackle the housing
crisis by encouraging local communities
to build their own homes.
A new scheme, called the Early Stage
Support Programme, http://locality.
org.uk/projects/communityled-housing/
early-stage-support/ has been launched
by LOCALITY using funding from
the Nationwide Foundation, which will
assist 22 groups with starting up their
own community-led housing projects to
provide affordable homes for locals.
NALC is urging town and parish councils,
if they are aware of such local interest,
to encourage any community groups to
apply for the grant programme, which
will provide one-to-one assistance from
experts and guidance on such things as
choosing what type of legal structure is
best to carry a project forward and how
to seek further funding.
If you know of such a group in your
community, or have been working
closely with local residents on the need
for more affordable local housing, please
point them in the direction of the links
above. The deadline for applications for
this grant pot is 12th August 2016.
