We welcome into the family of God’s
Church through Holy Baptism: 5th June,
Angelica Houlden.
We share in the sadness of those
who mourn the death of a loved one,
remembering those whose funeral has
taken place, or cremated remains have
been laid to rest this month: 27th June,
Gordon Brownlow.

Babies and Buggies Service
Since January, St Mary’s Church has
been holding a monthly service for babies
and buggies; that is, a service for babies,
toddlers and their carers. The 30 minute
service, in an informal and child friendly
setting, has been great fun. The children
are free to run around and play with
their toys at the same time as the short
service takes place. The services, aimed
at both children and adults, started at the
beginning: God’s world; God’s creation.
The children were asked to help pin
pictures of animals, flowers and people
on a board representing the world.
We then followed our theme of God’s
world, God’s creation with the story of

Noah’s Ark, the children helping to pin
up pictures of the ark and the animals
entering two by two, together with
Noah’s family. This led into our theme
of the seeds, flowers and trees needed by
Noah to start again after the great flood.
The children then planted seeds to take
home to care for and nurture.
For the following three services we
explored people who help us and those
we help and how Noah’s family helped
after the flood. We discussed how those
around us provide us with care and
emotional support, our need to help each
other and how Jesus helps us. Having
previously explored people in our lives,
we looked at the tools they use and their
purpose. We then discussed the tools
God gives us to live our lives. From here
we discussed the actions of people and
how actions such as prayer can bring us
closer to Jesus. In all of these services the
children have been encouraged to take
part in practical activities.
Our July meeting was a teddy bears’
picnic which was fun and enjoyed by all.
We will be holding further services over
the next six months and the dates will be
published next month. I do hope you will
come and join us, whether young or not
so young. Everyone is welcome.
