Welton Village Hall Trust
July saw an exciting new venture for the
village hall as, for the first time, it was
transformed with internal drapes to make
it a stunning wedding venue.
With the help of Keymarque, a specialist
marquee and events company, and some
minor internal alterations to the building,
the village hall is now able to offer the
draping service at very competitive rates
for celebrations of all kinds. The photo on
page 33 demonstrates the transformation
that can be achieved; all the style of an
outdoor venue with all the benefits of
staying indoors. Of course, the village
hall also offers excellent parking for those
who need it, village centre convenience for
local guests and the knowledge that the
proceeds go to supporting an important
village asset. If you have a family ‘do’

The village hall’s importance to Welton
is clear but the Trustees were slightly
bemused recently by the parish council’s
application to register it as a community
asset with West Lindsey District Council,
effectively putting a local charge on the
property. In principle the community asset
registration procedure is an important
measure to protect community buildings
and open spaces that might otherwise
be sold off for other uses, but neither
the trustees nor Community Lincs, the
umbrella group for village halls in the
county, can see a clear rationale for its
application to a property that is owned
under trust for community use and whose
use is carefully controlled. The trustees
are seeking further information from the
parish council as to what it hoped to
achieve.
Don’t forget; the village hall is your
building. There’s lots going on there for
everyone but still space and time for
anything new you might have planned.
