Symposium: Clinical relevance of COPD phenotyping
Aims : COPD is an important disease worldwide. However, the current treatments for COPD still lack sufficient efficacy, especially in
terms of preventing disease progression and treating advanced stage disease. A better knowledge and understanding of the different COPD
phenotypes will lead to a better understanding of the treatment choices; it will also help to promote the development of other treatments in
the future. The main aims of the session are to describe the different phenotypes of COPD and the importance of these phenotypes for
selecting the best treatments. Moreover, leading experts in the field will provide an update on the current and future treatment options for
COPD.
Session: London Respiratory Network
Overcoming the trend to increasing specialisation to benefit patients with complex respiratory needs
Aims : Although the competence and scope of primary and community care is increasing, the majority of patients in our hospitals today
have complex problems that challenge our current ways of working. This symposium draws on the knowledge and experience of the
London Respiratory Network, which represents the professionals who are interested in respiratory health in this city of 8 million people.
In London, £685 million is spent every year on respiratory care. Despite this, there is still room to improve respiratory outcomes. This
session focuses on children and adults with complex needs and provides some scalable exemplars of good practice.
Chairs : Stefano Nardini (Vittorio Veneto, TV, Italy), Noel Baxter (London, United Kingdom)
