Symposium: COPD case-finding: how can we find the missing millions?<br />

Aims : The aim of this session is to summarise and discuss the latest findings regarding the identification of patients with undiagnosed but<br />

symptomatic COPD. The session will include a review of studies evaluating the clinical- and cost-effectiveness of different COPD case<br />

-finding approaches; an overview of the algorithms that have been derived from primary care records and that aim to improve the<br />

efficiency of COPD case-finding; a discussion of the views of GPs, healthcare professionals, and patients on COPD case-finding; and an<br />

overview of the pros and cons of a structured screening programme and the gaps in the evidence.<br />

Aims : Many systemic disorders have lung involvement that is often neglected. The modern pulmonologist must follow a holistic<br />

approach. Recently, chest physicians have realised that several diseases, including IgG4 disease, transfusion-related acute lung injury<br />

(TRALI), and diabetes, have significant lung involvement. An update in this field is needed.<br />
