PRME Working Group on Poverty, a<br />

Challenge for Management Education<br />

<strong>INCAE</strong> served on the organizing committee for the<br />

international conference Leveraging Innovative and<br />

Cross-country Learning for Poverty Reduction: Climbing<br />

the Economic Ladder – Examples from and for<br />

Nicaragua, held in July 2014 at <strong>INCAE</strong>’s Francisco de<br />

Sola campus in Managua. This conference focused on<br />

poverty eradication as a business responsibility of and<br />

its implications for business curriculum and strategy.<br />

Think Forward: Latin American Base of<br />

the Pyramid Forum<br />

This three-day forum, held in Costa Rica in January<br />

2015, brought together leading experts in sustainable<br />

business strategy and practice for the base of the<br />

pyramid (BoP), along with <strong>INCAE</strong> faculty members<br />

and business leaders. They discussed the challenges<br />

of implementing BoP strategies and best practices of<br />

companies operating in Latin America. Companies<br />

such as PEPSICO, Centrolac, Syngenta, Tetra Pak, Tía<br />

Supermarkets, CEMEX and Millicom participated in the<br />

workshop Top Management Strategy Challenge on<br />

BoP. Experts from the University of Vermont, William<br />

Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan, Drucker<br />

School, <strong>INCAE</strong>, University of the Pacific, University<br />

of the Andes, and Erb Institute for Global Sustainable<br />

Enterprise participated in the open conference Learning<br />

effective strategies on the basis of the pyramid from<br />

the experience of senior management.<br />

Dialogue on the Results of the Social<br />

Progress Index<br />

The results of the Social Progress Index 2015 were<br />

presented at two events (one in Costa Rica, held in<br />

April, and the other in Nicaragua, held in October),<br />

including its implications for both countries. Decision<br />

makers and social innovators from all sectors<br />

participated in this event.<br />

II Central American Forum on<br />

Corporate Volunteerism<br />

The event was organized by Fundación Telefónica,<br />

CLACDS, and the International Association for<br />

Volunteer Effort (IAVE), and was held in July 2015.<br />

The initiative aimed to share inspirational practices<br />

from the Central American region with business<br />

executives, NGO leaders and the public sector, thus<br />

helping to consolidate corporate volunteerism as a<br />

social expression of company work forces, and a<br />

strategic action for achieving business objectives.<br />
