2011 Founders’ Day Celebration

What do
you get
when
you add 25-plus
former Selcer
Award winners,
one current Selcer
winner, Richard
Selcer, Jr., a casino for charity,
an incredible silent auction,
three brand new Porsches on
display, an open bar, and a
fabulous gourmet meal? Maverick
Region’s Founders’ Day 2011.
You might ask why this year’s event
was so massive. Well, we HAD to
kick off the start of our 50th year
in a big way. If you can believe
it, next year’s event will be even
BIGGER! Go ahead and mark your
calendar for December 1st, 2012,
for our actual 50th Anniversary
celebration. It’s going to be EPIC!
Dick Selcer added a special dimension
to the evening.
So, without going into all the
minute details of the planning
of this event, suffice it to say that
we have a team of people already
working on celebrating the 50th
anniversary all year long. One
member of this team is Linda
Bambina, who decided early on
that we should celebrate the best
of the best of our region at this
year’s event. So, she personally
contacted every single Selcer Award
winner for the past 36 years. One
of them was so hard to reach that
it required a personal visit to their
home for Linda to leave a note
on the door. Seriously? That’s
dedication. Well, apparently emails
and phone calls failed and she is
NOT going to accept failure!

enthusiastic
and dedicated
member.
Imagine that...
more than 25 of
the MOST enthusiastic members in
the same room with all the rest of
us car nuts. Topping it off, we were
delighted to meet Dick Selcer’s son
Rick, who truly was in awe of the
legacy that his father passed on. He
gave a most entertaining speech to
the crowd about his dad and how
Porsche affected his life. Very cool.
As if that wasn’t enough, we then
were joined by Steve Krysill, the
regional manager of Porsche Cars
North America. While you might
consider a speech by someone from
PCNA to be dry and uninteresting
(trust me - I’ve been to a few
Parades where I’ve had to endure
some seriously boring speeches),
this was not. English was his first
language, so he was pretty easy
to understand - except for that
pesky Boston accent (Joel Nannis
felt right at home). He showed
some pretty cool videos and teased
about some upcoming news. One
exciting announcement was that
Porsche is getting BACK into
racing, including targeting the
overall win at LeMans in 2014.

they also provided money for the
open bar. Yeah, you read that right
. . . OPEN BAR. I wonder if that
helped to open more wallets than
usual, but I think more money was
raised through the silent auction
