there were also plenty of door
prizes given away so everyone had a
chance to go away with something!
The banquet menu at the Hilton
Southlake was truly one of the
best banquet meals I’ve ever had.
Everything was cooked just right
and the hotel staff couldn’t have
been better. My daughter, Jasmine,
is getting tired of me still talking
about that crème brûlée dessert.
We might have to make a special
trip back to the hotel just for that!
A true honor to be awarded the Selcer Award
on this particular evening.
Oh, you might be interested
in knowing who won the Selcer
award this year. None other than
our illustrious editor, Richard
Bradley! Not only has he done an
outstanding job with the newsletter,
culminating in a first place victory
in Class V in the national contest,
but he’s also really engaged his
daughter, Amanda, this past year
in all things PCA. It’s tough to
get that kind of excitement from
the next generation. He has been
absolutely superb and a true
enthusiast this year, I’m sure you
will agree. We will miss him next
year as he takes a half step back
from the club to focus on business,
but I’m sure he won’t be gone
entirely as he helps Carey Spreen
take over as Slipstream Editor.
Another Maverick Region Award
that is presented every few years
is the Gregg Murrell Award for
driving enthusiasm. This year it
was presented to Bill Miller, who
has been our Club Race co-chair
for several years now. He and Joel
Nannis have an agreement. Bill
is the event chair BEFORE the
event, but once the day arrives,
Joel takes over so Bill can race.
Now THAT’S dedication! Bill is
also moving on this year, making
room for new blood (Pat Heptig)
Mark Hanna always has something in mind...
to take over his spot. I just realized
that our illustrious president,
John Hamilton, gave these two
major awards to people who were
leaving their posts next year.
What’s up with that? Anyway, we
know the enthusiasm from these
two won’t go away; it will just be
channeled into something else. I
know we have a slew of new and
old members in the club willing to
pick up where these two have left
off. Are YOU one of those? There’s
always room on the board for
enthusiastic members. Just ask John
about how you can get involved.
