A sightseeing spectacular!<br />
Join us as we take in some of the finest scenery on offer in England. Based at<br />
the delightful Gilsland Spa Hotel, we make excursions through the stunning<br />
Cumbrian and Northumberland countryside, along with enjoying a ride on<br />
the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway, the Cumbrian Coastal Line and a ride<br />
on the La’al Ratty steam train as we head from the coast into the mountains.<br />
DAY 1: Morning collection from your home to join<br />
the coach for the journey north to our hotel in<br />
Gilsland, Cumbria. We arrive at our hotel during the<br />
late afternoon in time for evening meal and a stay<br />
of 4 nights.<br />
DAY 2: Today we head for Longtown and drive along<br />
Liddesdale as we make our way to picturesque Kielder<br />
Water and Forest Park. We take a break at the visitor<br />
centre before continuing to Bellingham and Hexham,<br />
dominated by the Abbey overlooking the market<br />
square. This afternoon we return along the path of<br />
Hadrian’s Wall, which stretched some 76 miles from<br />
the Tyne to the Solway.<br />
DAY 3: This morning we start our first train journey<br />
of the day in Carlisle. The line follows the Cumbrian<br />
coastline through Maryport and Whitehaven, with<br />
the stunning sea views staying with us until we reach<br />
Ravenglass. Here we join the Ravenglass and Eskdale<br />
Railway for a steam train ride from the coast to the<br />
foothills of England’s highest mountains.<br />

DAY 4: After a leisurely breakfast we head into the<br />
Yorkshire Dales to Kirkby Lonsdale, where we find<br />
the weekly market in full swing. After some free<br />
time, we travel on past the immense Ribblehead<br />
Viaduct, through charming Horton-in-Ribblesdale<br />
to Settle. This afternoon we take in the most<br />
spectacular train journey on a main line railway in<br />
the whole of England – the famous Settle to Carlisle<br />
line. We travel along the line passing through<br />
majestic scenery, long deep tunnels and over<br />
towering viaducts to Carlisle where we rejoin our<br />
coach for the ride back to Gilsland.<br />
DAY 5: After breakfast, we bid farewell to our<br />
hotel and retrace our journey home. We arrive<br />
back in East Anglia by early evening where<br />
our door to door service will be waiting to<br />
return you home.<br />

Land of the Prince Bishops<br />

DAY 1: Morning collection from home and luxury<br />
coach travel to the North East, stopping in the<br />
Yorkshire spa town of Harrogate before continuing<br />
on to our hotel in scenic County Durham.<br />
DAY 2: Today we head to Hartlepool and its award<br />
winning Maritime Experience. This super recreation<br />
of an 18th century seaport brings to life the time<br />
of Nelson, Napoleon and the Battle of Trafalgar.<br />
In the afternoon we visit historic Durham.<br />
DAY 3: We travel to the market town of Hexham<br />
before following Hadrians Wall where we visit<br />
the Roman Army Museum to experience life as<br />

via Alston, England’s highest town and Weardale.<br />
DAY 4: A full day visit to the superb, award<br />
winning Beamish Open Air Museum where the<br />
past comes to life. Beamish is unique – a living,<br />
working experience of life as it was in the Great<br />
North in the early 1800’s and 1900’s. Set in over<br />
300 acres of beautiful countryside, it demonstrates<br />
the recent history of the region in a ‘living’ way<br />
and provides entertainment and education for<br />
visitors of all ages and interests.<br />
DAY 5: Leaving our hotel after breakfast we visit<br />
the lovely town of Ripon for some free time.<br />
Later we continue our journey back<br />
to East Anglia where our door<br />
to door service will be waiting<br />
to return you home.<br />
