PROGRAMS AND RESEARCH FACILITIES:<br />

Undergraduate tracks include the B.A. in Geography and the B.S. in<br />

Applied Geography with concentrations in either environmental or<br />

human aspects, the B.S. in Applied Atmospheric Science and the B.S.<br />

in Geographic Information Science and Technology. Department also<br />

houses BS in Urban and Regional Planning.<br />

At the graduate level the Department specializes in human geography,<br />

physical geography spatial information technologies, and atmospheric<br />

science, and supports a variety of approaches within each of these<br />

areas. Faculty expertise is clustered around the<br />

following: Sustainability and Environmental Justice; Environmental<br />

Geography; Atmospheric Science; Geographic Information Science;<br />

Rural Development; and Coastal Management. The department<br />

maintains fully equipped research and instructional laboratories. These<br />

include a sediment lab, atmospheric science lab, hydrology lab, and<br />

three labs devoted to G.I. Science and visualization.<br />

ACADEMIC PLAN, ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS, AND<br />

FINANCIAL AID:<br />

UNDERGRADUATE: Semester system. Admission requirements are<br />

stated in the ECU Catalog. Students may declare an intended major in<br />

geography, geographic information science and technology, applied<br />

atmospheric science, or planning upon admission. The Department<br />

offers certificate programs in G.I. Science and atmospheric science.<br />
