PROGRAMS AND RESEARCH FACILITIES: The Geography<br />

Program offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees that<br />

require a minimum of 124 hours. Students majoring in geography<br />

must complete 30 hours in geography, including World Regional<br />

Geography, Human Geography, and GIS, and may select additional<br />

courses from a menu of regional and topical courses. Texas Christian<br />

University offers Geography majors the opportunity to participate<br />

with faculty in their research in historical urban geography, Latin<br />

American geography, geomorphology, and water resources. Field trips<br />

are a component of most upper-division geography courses and<br />

summer study abroad programs are available. Geography faculty<br />

members are located in the Department of History and Geography and<br />

the Department of Environmental Science and students have the<br />

advantage of participating in the activities of both departments. Note:<br />

Geography will become a stand-alone department in June 2016.<br />

PROGRAMS AND RESEARCH FACILITIES:<br />

Undergraduate: General geography majors are available for both<br />

B.A. and B.S. degrees. Major concentrations within the B.S. degree<br />

program are also available in resource and environmental studies,<br />

urban and regional planning, geographic information science, water<br />

studies, and physical geography. A teacher certification option is also<br />

available. Numerous scholarships and internship opportunities are<br />

likewise available.<br />

Certificate Programs: The department offers four certificate<br />

programs in GIS, Location Analysis, Environmental<br />

Interpretation, and Water Resources Policy, which enable students to<br />

gain in-depth knowledge and skills in these critical areas.<br />

Graduate, M.A.G.: The Master of Applied Geography degree<br />

provides the geographic training and skills necessary to solve realworld<br />

problems. The 33-hour M.A.G. program includes a 9-hour<br />

required core and a major in: 1) general geography, 2) resource and<br />

environmental studies, 3) geographic information science, or 4)<br />

geographic education. Students complete a 3-hour directed research<br />

project. Internships are also available.<br />

Graduate, M.S.: The Master of Science in geography program gives<br />

highly qualified students exposure to geographic theory and research<br />

at the pre-doctoral level. Programmatic emphases include<br />
