PROGRAMS AND RESEARCH FACILITIES: The Department<br />

offers 3-year B.A. and B.Sc. degrees, 4-year B.A. and B.Sc. degrees,<br />

4-year B.A. and B.Sc. honours degrees, and 4-year B.A. and B.Sc.<br />

Degrees with Environmental Studies and Geomatics Concentrations.<br />

The Department also participates in a 2+2 articulation agreement with<br />

Assiniboine Community College. ACC graduates can transfer directly<br />

into the third year of a B.Sc. or B.A. in either the Environmental<br />

Studies or Geomatics Concentration.<br />

The Department is located in the Brodie Science Centre. The<br />

department houses the B.U. Department of Geography Centre for<br />

Geomatics and oversees operation of the John Tyman Map Library.<br />

The Department is a depository for the Canadian National<br />

Topographic Map Series and has an extensive collection of air<br />

photographs of southwestern Manitoba.<br />

ACADEMIC PLAN, ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS, AND<br />

FINANCIAL AID: Brandon University operates on a semester<br />

system. In order to obtain a 3-year major in geography a student has to<br />

take a minimum of 30 credit hours out of a total of 90 credit hours for<br />

the degree. The 4-year degree requires a minimum of 48 credit hours<br />

in geography from a total of 120. Students are required to take a group<br />

of common core introductory, methods and techniques courses<br />

followed by either the B.A. or B.Sc. stream.<br />

Admission to the faculties of arts and science is by graduation from<br />

a Manitoba high school, or the equivalent for other provinces or<br />

countries. There is also the possibility of mature admission or special<br />

admission for students who have not followed the traditional<br />

education route--in these cases the admission requirements are more<br />

flexible. The University offers a number of entrance scholarships and<br />

bursaries to applicants from Canadian high schools. Also, general loan<br />

funds are available to Brandon University students, of which the most<br />

frequently used is the Canada Student Loan Fund.<br />
