IV. Suggested minimum data to be collected at <strong>the</strong> clinical<br />

level<br />

The suggested minimum data to be collected are important in <strong>the</strong> development of key indicators on<br />

access to treatment <strong>and</strong> its success. Such indicators assist managers in decision-making on ways to<br />

streng<strong>the</strong>n <strong>and</strong> exp<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>se services to all those in need.<br />

The following data should be collected at each clinical facility on a regular basis (e.g. monthly,<br />

quarterly or semi-annually):<br />

• number of <strong>HIV</strong> patients (“seen <strong>for</strong> care” – this will be <strong>the</strong> denominator <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> data below);<br />

• number of <strong>HIV</strong> patients coinfected with HBV (HbsAg-positive);<br />

• number of <strong>HIV</strong>-positive patients with active hepatitis;<br />

• number of <strong>HIV</strong>-positive patients with active hepatitis receiving:<br />

° HAART with 3TC <strong>and</strong>/or TDF;<br />

° ART without 3TC <strong>and</strong>/or TDF;<br />

° exclusively on hepatitis B treatment (e.g. IFN or ADF);<br />

• number of <strong>HIV</strong>-infected patients vaccinated against HBV; <strong>and</strong>,<br />

• number of HBV/<strong>HIV</strong> coinfected patients who have died (in a given time period) including cause<br />

of death (e.g. liver-related deaths, <strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong> related mortality or non-<strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong> related mortality<br />

such as accident, overdose or suicide).<br />
