2.2. PMTCT of HCV<br />

• HCV mo<strong>the</strong>r-to-child transmission (MTCT) in <strong>HIV</strong>-infected women is high (between 5% <strong>and</strong><br />

20%) (10). When possible, HCV treatment should be offered be<strong>for</strong>e pregnancy to women of<br />

childbearing age. Although several MTCT risk factors have been identified, <strong>the</strong>re are currently<br />

no interventions available to prevent vertical transmission of HCV.<br />

• Normally, elective caesarean section is advised <strong>for</strong> women who are <strong>HIV</strong>-infected as a means of<br />
