All possible combinations testing � If the number of test cases is so huge for as few as 7 variables, imagine what happens in a typical commercial program where there are hundreds of variables. All-Pairs Combination Testing � Many pairs are tested at the same time in one combination. Allpairs technique ensures all-pairs, that means that every value of a variable is combined with every value of every other variable at least once. � Only independent variables should be tested using all-pairs technique. � For each independent variable, only non-error handling test cases should be involved in all-pairs combination. � In particular, if there are n variables, then each combination generated by all-pairs combination has n x (n-1) / 2 pairs. � If we arrange all independent variables in the descending order of the number of acceptable (non-error handling) test cases they have and if max 1 and max 2 represent the first two variables in such an arrangement, the minimal number of combinations due to all-pairs combination technique is: No. of test cases (Max1) x No. of test cases (Max2) © Sowmya Padmanabhan, 2003 6
