Bridge of Weir Tenants
and Residents Association
The latest meeting of Bridge of Weir TARA was well attended and a number of
topics were discussed concerning the village. Our thanks go to Councillor Maria
Brown, Police Chief Inspector Simon Wright, Renfrewshire Council Housing Officer
Alan Boyack and Dave and Jamie from the Renfrewshire Wardens Service for
their attendance. The meeting was started with all in attendance observing a
minute’s silence in memory of TARA chair Gordon Lethorn who sadly passed
away on the 29th April. The police report for previous month showed that there
were a few low level crimes committed within the village. Chief Inspector Wright
however passed on his concerns regarding the opportunities given to inquisitive
crime, were would be criminals will try doors, windows, sheds, etc. In the hope
that they’ll find one of them open and they can break-in. He also expressed his
concerns, especially as summer is upon us, regarding doors and windows being
left open and opportunist thieves taking the opportunity to steal any valuables in
the vicinity car keys, purses, wallets, etc. Valuables should always be stored out
of sight. The police are currently being pro-active during night-shift time stopping
vehicles going through the village to let their presence be known. As always if
you see anything suspicious please phone the police on 101. The Renfrewshire
Wardens Service report showed that there were two £80 fines levied for dog
fouling offences, one in Freeland Drive and the other in St. Machars Road. There
was also one fine levied for littering and another for fly-tipping. The Wardens and
the TARA are particularly concerned that incidents of fly-tipping will increase due to
the council shutting down local dumps, and it is requested that anyone witnessing
such an act should call the Wardens Service on 0300 300 0380. There have
been concerns raised about the trucks contracted to work on the Shillingworth
housing site not adhering to the designated access route of Prieston Road and
Ranfurly Place, with some drivers choosing to come down Kilgraston Road. This
is unacceptable and any such incidents should be reported to Renfrewshire
Council. TARA have already spoken to
Councillor Maria Brown regarding this
issue and she will take our concerns
forward to the Council.
Following a site visit by Councillor
Maria Brown and a member of TARA
the trees along the pathway on
Houston Road are to be cut back at
pavement level so that pedestrians
may pass safely. The large tree
overhanging the Houston Road at this
location is to be surveyed as there are
concerns about its impact on the wall
a joining the road.
The next meeting of Bridge of Weir
TARA will be an EGM and it will be held
on Tuesday 16th August at 7.30pm in
the Pirie Centre at Freeland Church.
All are welcome.
Brookfield Village
A group of Brookfield residents recently joined in the annual Community Council
clean up and a good number of sacks were filled with discarded litter. Tea and
cakes were provided to all participants afterwards (hint, hint, to anyone thinking
of coming along next year!) Grateful thanks to all those whose hard work has
made the village spick and span once more.
A Kids Fitness Activity Club is currently running from 5-6pm on Tuesday evenings
in the Village Hall. See our Facebook page, Brookfield Village, or Twitter @
BrookfieldVPA for more details.
A Quiz night was held in Brookfield Village Hall on Saturday, 14th May 2016.
Apologies to all those Eurovision enthusiasts who were torn between a great night
out and a great night in, but I am happy to report that a great night out won, with
an excellent number of quizzers competing for the ultimate prize of ....erm ....
knowing they are extremely good at quizzes!!!
Brookfield is gearing up for their Summer Social on Sunday, 5th June 2016 at
Fox and Hounds,
Houston -
Best Pub in
Renfrewshire!
The National Pub & Bar Awards has
announced the best pubs from each
county across the United Kingdom
and local pub, The Fox & Hounds in
Houston, has been named ‘Best in
Renfrewshire’.
A total of 94 pubs from across
England, Wales, Scotland and
Northern Ireland have been selected as the best in their area and will now have
the chance to be named the best in their region.
From perfect service to product range, aesthetic design or entertainment
schedules, the 94 County Winners have been selected by Pub & Bar magazine’s
internal judging panel on all of the aspects required to provide ultimate hospitality
within the on-trade.
“These pubs represent all that
is great about the modern ontrade,”
says Tristan O’Hana,
editor of Pub & Bar magazine.
“You can only imagine the
fantastic variety of operations
we have discovered through
the judging process – it’s
been an absolute pleasure
to investigate just how all of
these incredible operators
run their businesses.
“What’s great about the Awards is that all the attendees of the Grand Final
are already winners – they’re the best in their county. We’re very much looking
forward to celebrating with everyone at BAFTA in London.”
Jason Andrews, who runs the Fox & Hounds in Houston, told The Advertizer, “This
is very exciting news. Pub & Bar Magazine have named the Fox & Hounds the
best pub in Renfrewshire!!
We are very proud of this achievement and extremely grateful to everyone for
their support as we were selected from over 1000 venues in the area. The finals
were held at The BAFTA Theatre in London on 24 May and we were invited to
receive our award for Best Pub.”
