Le Twinning: Mérignies-Kilmacolm Golf
Challenge a Roaring Success!
The weekend of 14th to 15th May marked the first Mérignies-Kilmacolm golf
challenge. The visit and the event on the Sunday, which took place in Kilmacolm,
was organised by the respective clubs to coincide with the KGC 125th anniversary
celebrations. The organisation of the visit of our French friends was shared
between KGC and the Twinning Society.
The entire visit couldn’t have gone better! We
had splendid weather the whole weekend
which allowed the golfers to play on both days
while taking a moment to stroll around the
Agricultural Show.
The Twinning Society dinner on the Saturday
evening, which was a huge success, allowed
our French friends to savour the delights of
Balmoral Chicken, Whisky Sauce and a few
choice single malts! During the course of
the meal we were able to present the Mérignies delegation with a set of 4 slate
images depicting different buildings in Kilmacolm. These were extracts from a
marvellous Kilmacolm Civic Trust project in which children from primary/junior
schools were asked to draw a building of their choice in the village.
As always, to make these events happen, the Society relies on the generosity and
hard-work of different groups within our community. We would therefore like to
offer a warm thanks to the Old Kirk for tables and chairs; our friend Jan for lending
her space; Quarriers, Avonmore Cottage and Parnell Farm for fab B&B; Newark
Enterprise for printing the images on the slates; and last but not least, Kilmacolm
Golf Club for a friendly but masterful handling of the entire golfing event.
Lochwinnoch Gala Day
11th June. Theme - Star Wars
Preparations are now well advanced for this year’s event. Gala Day will start, as
usual, with the Parade bringing the Queen and her entourage to the Public Park.
The parade will assemble at Auld Simon at 12 noon and will begin at 12.30pm,
arriving at the Public Park at 1pm for the opening ceremony and Crowning of the
Queen.
This year we have St Columba’s Pipe Band leading the parade, together with
some of the well known Star Wars characters.
The event will be opened by Lochwinnoch’s lovely Carmen Pieraccini of River City
fame!!
There will be the usual fancy dress competition on the field after the crowning of
the Queen, and this will be judged by our Star Wars visitors. They will also select
one lucky child to be included in a carefully staged fight sequence with them. We
are hoping that the costumes on the day will be better than ever as there will be
lots of photo opportunities!!
Stallholders, for the first time, we are having a “Best Dressed Stall” competition.
You can choose your own theme and the winner will have a free stall at next
year’s event.
The Stallholder Application forms are now available on our Facebook page OR by
email to: janeowens@hotmail.co.uk OR pick up a hard copy from Calder Gallery &
Framing 8 High Street Lochwinnoch. The cost still remains at £25 a pitch.
The highly popular bottle stall will this year be run on behalf of our local Toddler’s
Group.
Please be generous with your contributions for this very very worthy group who
are working so hard to provide this facility for the village. Collections will be made
throughout the village. A nice bottle is very welcome but a bottle of shampoo or
sauce would also be appreciated too.
Dog owners, please have your best friends ready for the day, as the Dog Show will
again be running and have a full program of classes.
As always, we are totally dependent on volunteers to help on the day!! We are only
asking for just an hour or so of your time. If you can assist in any way, either before,
during, or after Gala Day itself, please contact Jane Owens on 07790506062 or
email janeowens@hotmail.co.uk.
Get to work on those costumes, good luck and
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU ……
