Houston Primary School<br />
The nursery pupils attended the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s<br />
production of the Magical Toy Shop and had a wonderful time. Primary<br />
1 pupils have been engaging in the Outdoor Physical Play Programme<br />
and have been visiting Crosslee Park this term to help them keep fit. Their<br />
favourite activity is the Flying Fox. Primary 2 are learning about Vikings and<br />
had an amazing time at Vikingar in Largs to further enhance their learning<br />
and understanding of what life was like for a Viking. Primary 3 have been<br />
learning about the Egyptians and visited Kelvingrove Museum where they<br />
enjoyed seeing all the artefacts close up. Primary 4 are learning about<br />
Paisley and were surprised to find out that the Paisley Pattern originated<br />
in India and not Paisley! Primary 5 had a visit from Zoolab as part of their<br />
Rainforest topic. Some very brave pupils handled snakes, spiders and stick<br />
insects. Apparently they were all friendly! Primary 6 pupils took part in the<br />
Euroquiz where they had to answer lots of tricky questions about countries<br />
in Europe and the European Union. Primary 7 are off to Loch Insh this<br />
month and look forward to canoeing, kayaking, wind surfing and mountain<br />
biking. Let’s hope the sun shines for them.<br />
The gardening Club have been very busy weeding, cleaning pots and<br />
preparing the soil for planting. They have also been making bird feeders to<br />
encourage a wide range of species into the school grounds. The Gardening<br />
Club is very well supported by parents and grandparents and we are very<br />
grateful to them.<br />
Johnstone High School<br />
50th Anniversary<br />
Celebrations<br />
Johnstone High recently celebrated<br />
their 50th anniversary in this building.<br />
Johnstone High School was built in<br />
1877 in Johnstone town centre but<br />
moved to its current site 1965. To<br />
celebrate the school’s anniversary<br />
we invited students past and<br />
present to represent all year groups<br />
from 1965 to 2015. Muriel Govan<br />
represented 1965 and Katie Storrie<br />
from our current S1. All organised<br />
by Mr Munro Kayla Speirs and Maya<br />
Glacken, S6. They painstakingly<br />
found the visitors through Facebook,<br />
phone numbers, friends and relatives<br />
as well as placing articles in the <strong>Gryffe</strong><br />
<strong>Advertizer</strong> and the Paisley Gazette.<br />
The amount of volunteers was overwhelming; including some people from<br />
Guernsey, Chester and London.<br />
The school combined the anniversary with the senior awards ceremony<br />
where successful students of the past 50 years celebrated the successes<br />
of our students present. Mr Munro also wittily included some amusing<br />
anecdotes from the Headteacher’s log book from over the years. The<br />
feedback from the event has been very positive and we would like to say a<br />
huge thank you to all who attended, participated and organised the event to<br />
help make it such a great success.<br />
Inter-Generational Coffee Morning<br />
On the 19th April, Miss Wilson and 2Arran1 held an inter-generational<br />
coffee morning for staff and residents at Ranfurly Care Home in Johnstone.<br />
With the intention of building community bonds, the pupils provided an<br />
enjoyable afternoon of sandwiches and cakes. 4 residents and 3 members<br />
of staff travelled to the school, although in future years it is hoped that more<br />
will be able to attend this beneficial event. 2nd, 3rd and 4th year pupils also<br />
provided entertainment in the form of vocals, piano and guitar. Overall, it<br />
was a huge success and achieved its goal of bringing local generations<br />
together as well as promoting the school within the community.<br />
The school show this year is Annie and will be<br />
performed on the 14th, 15th and 16th of <strong>June</strong>.<br />
Tickets are available from the school and cost<br />
£8, concession £5 and a family ticket is only<br />
£20.<br />
Kilbarchan<br />

The children recently enjoyed a visit<br />
from the Skoobmobile book bus.<br />
As well as listening to a story the<br />
children got the chance to choose<br />
a book to take back to read at<br />
nursery.<br />
As part of the transition programme<br />
for starting school in August, all<br />
children now have a ‘buddy’ from<br />
Kilbarchan Primary. The school<br />
children have visited the nursery<br />
as well as having playground<br />
sessions with the nursery children.<br />
The buddies will be there to lend a<br />
helping hand to settle the children<br />
into primary school in August.<br />
Later this month we will be taking<br />
our annual summer trip and this<br />
year it’s Finlaystone. The cost of<br />
the trip is subsidised by money<br />
raised from our sponsored musical<br />
event.<br />
Summer term finishes with parties<br />
for all children on 27 <strong>June</strong> followed<br />
by our end of term presentation on<br />
28 <strong>June</strong> for all pre-school children.<br />
We wish them well in their new<br />
schools.<br />
Langbank<br />
Playgroup<br />
Langbank Playgroup would like to<br />
offer a warm welcome to our new<br />
member of staff, Lauren Pearson,<br />
we wish you many fun filled Friday<br />
mornings!<br />
We have been particularly busy<br />
the last few weeks at Langbank<br />
Playgroup. We recently had a visit<br />
from Port Glasgow fire brigade<br />
which the children thoroughly<br />
enjoyed and were given the<br />
opportunity to experiment with the<br />
equipment and climb aboard the<br />
engine. The children also had the<br />
opportunity to experience an Active<br />
Kids session, where they were able<br />
to learn and develop new physical<br />
skills.<br />
We recently went on our spring<br />
trip to Wellsfield Farm Park in<br />
Stirling. The trip was enjoyed by<br />
both children and their parents, the<br />
sunshine even joined us too!<br />
As well as the exciting visits and<br />
trips, we have a variety of activities<br />
on offer on a Friday morning, such<br />
as painting and crafts, imaginative<br />
play, physical play, storytelling and<br />
many more.<br />

to 5yrs and live in the local and<br />
surrounding areas then come<br />

Silver Tablet<br />
<strong>2016</strong><br />
The annual Silver Tablet Concert<br />
celebrates the best of musical<br />
talent from the Senior School<br />
and will take place in St Columba<br />
Church on Monday 6th <strong>June</strong> from<br />
2.00 - 3.30pm (guests to be seated<br />
by 1.45pm). Light refreshments will<br />
be served afterwards.<br />
The <strong>2016</strong> performers are Matthew<br />
Chan and Olivia McNee.<br />
