Houston Primary School
The nursery pupils attended the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s
production of the Magical Toy Shop and had a wonderful time. Primary
1 pupils have been engaging in the Outdoor Physical Play Programme
and have been visiting Crosslee Park this term to help them keep fit. Their
favourite activity is the Flying Fox. Primary 2 are learning about Vikings and
had an amazing time at Vikingar in Largs to further enhance their learning
and understanding of what life was like for a Viking. Primary 3 have been
learning about the Egyptians and visited Kelvingrove Museum where they
enjoyed seeing all the artefacts close up. Primary 4 are learning about
Paisley and were surprised to find out that the Paisley Pattern originated
in India and not Paisley! Primary 5 had a visit from Zoolab as part of their
Rainforest topic. Some very brave pupils handled snakes, spiders and stick
insects. Apparently they were all friendly! Primary 6 pupils took part in the
Euroquiz where they had to answer lots of tricky questions about countries
in Europe and the European Union. Primary 7 are off to Loch Insh this
month and look forward to canoeing, kayaking, wind surfing and mountain
biking. Let’s hope the sun shines for them.
The gardening Club have been very busy weeding, cleaning pots and
preparing the soil for planting. They have also been making bird feeders to
encourage a wide range of species into the school grounds. The Gardening
Club is very well supported by parents and grandparents and we are very
grateful to them.
Johnstone High School
50th Anniversary
Celebrations
Johnstone High recently celebrated
their 50th anniversary in this building.
Johnstone High School was built in
1877 in Johnstone town centre but
moved to its current site 1965. To
celebrate the school’s anniversary
we invited students past and
present to represent all year groups
from 1965 to 2015. Muriel Govan
represented 1965 and Katie Storrie
from our current S1. All organised
by Mr Munro Kayla Speirs and Maya
Glacken, S6. They painstakingly
found the visitors through Facebook,
phone numbers, friends and relatives
as well as placing articles in the Gryffe
Advertizer and the Paisley Gazette.
The amount of volunteers was overwhelming; including some people from
Guernsey, Chester and London.
The school combined the anniversary with the senior awards ceremony
where successful students of the past 50 years celebrated the successes
of our students present. Mr Munro also wittily included some amusing
anecdotes from the Headteacher’s log book from over the years. The
feedback from the event has been very positive and we would like to say a
huge thank you to all who attended, participated and organised the event to
help make it such a great success.
Inter-Generational Coffee Morning
On the 19th April, Miss Wilson and 2Arran1 held an inter-generational
coffee morning for staff and residents at Ranfurly Care Home in Johnstone.
With the intention of building community bonds, the pupils provided an
enjoyable afternoon of sandwiches and cakes. 4 residents and 3 members
of staff travelled to the school, although in future years it is hoped that more
will be able to attend this beneficial event. 2nd, 3rd and 4th year pupils also
provided entertainment in the form of vocals, piano and guitar. Overall, it
was a huge success and achieved its goal of bringing local generations
together as well as promoting the school within the community.
The school show this year is Annie and will be
performed on the 14th, 15th and 16th of June.
Tickets are available from the school and cost
£8, concession £5 and a family ticket is only
£20.
Kilbarchan
community
nursery
The children recently enjoyed a visit
from the Skoobmobile book bus.
As well as listening to a story the
children got the chance to choose
a book to take back to read at
nursery.
As part of the transition programme
for starting school in August, all
children now have a ‘buddy’ from
Kilbarchan Primary. The school
children have visited the nursery
as well as having playground
sessions with the nursery children.
The buddies will be there to lend a
helping hand to settle the children
into primary school in August.
Later this month we will be taking
our annual summer trip and this
year it’s Finlaystone. The cost of
the trip is subsidised by money
raised from our sponsored musical
event.
Summer term finishes with parties
for all children on 27 June followed
by our end of term presentation on
28 June for all pre-school children.
We wish them well in their new
schools.
Langbank
Playgroup
Langbank Playgroup would like to
offer a warm welcome to our new
member of staff, Lauren Pearson,
we wish you many fun filled Friday
mornings!
We have been particularly busy
the last few weeks at Langbank
Playgroup. We recently had a visit
from Port Glasgow fire brigade
which the children thoroughly
enjoyed and were given the
opportunity to experiment with the
equipment and climb aboard the
engine. The children also had the
opportunity to experience an Active
Kids session, where they were able
to learn and develop new physical
skills.
We recently went on our spring
trip to Wellsfield Farm Park in
Stirling. The trip was enjoyed by
both children and their parents, the
sunshine even joined us too!
As well as the exciting visits and
trips, we have a variety of activities
on offer on a Friday morning, such
as painting and crafts, imaginative
play, physical play, storytelling and
many more.
If you have a child aged 2.5yr
to 5yrs and live in the local and
surrounding areas then come
and join us on a Friday morning.
