We finished off our second term
by holding a Building Challenge
Day in which every child was
involved in group activities and
challenges based around building
and construction. Challenges
included: Bridge Challenge, Lego
Challenge and a favourite, the
Three Little Pigs. Our thanks go
to Hub West Scotland, CBC Team,
Gavin Murray, Inverclyde Council,
and parents Fraser Gentles & Hazel Andrews.
Since our return from the Spring
break we have launched into full
swing with a variety of events and
activities. P6, along with pupils
from some other classes organised
a Reading Show to which parents
were invited. Parents were
entertained with songs from
Matilda, and a parody of a Taylor Swift song. Children explained which books
were favourites and why, and recited poems. The event was both bright and
colourful and showcased the hard work which P6 had been doing on their
Reciprocal Reading.
P.7 visited Elim Church, St Mary’s Church and Inverclyde Foodbank as
part of their religious and Moral Education and compared the inside of both
churches.
The Mini Builders visited the Kilmacolm site to check on progress of our
refurbishment and were amazed to see walls up again and the pitch resurfacing
had begun.
Our PTF held a fundraising coffee morning and raised £400 towards school
funds.
A P5-7 athletics team participated in a
Heptathlon event and performed excellently
as well as being praised for their excellent
behaviour. Well done! Most recently a girls’
football team participated in a football festival
and performed well for our school.
We sent two finalists to the Burns Federation
Competition recently, well done to Christopher
Todd P.5 who won 3rd place for his singing &
Poppy Paterson P.6 who, although not placed,
performed beautifully.

It’s been fabulous to be able to
enjoy our outdoor classroom
with the wonderful weather we
have been having lately. The
children have been making the
most of our garden area and we
have been out and about in the
park too. There has been lots
of preparation for our annual
Sports Day, hopefully it will be
dry for all our budding athletes!
Our new extended hours are
proving to be very popular
with both children and parents
alike. We are open till 1.30pm
on Mondays and 3.30pm on
Wednesdays this term before
our daily longer hours when we
will be open until 3.30pm from
August.
If you are looking for nursery
places for this August or
beyond we are holding an open
morning on Saturday 4th June
from 10am – 12noon. It would
be lovely to meet new families
to the area, or anyone looking
at pre school education in the
forthcoming years. Pop along,
see our great facilities and meet
some of the staff and current
parents.
We have an action packed time
at Duchal, learning through
play in a friendly secure
