I attended the April meeting of Kilbarchan Community
Council, where the issues of speeding through the village,
parking, and general traffic congestion was fully discussed.
The meeting was also attended by the Senior Inspector
from Johnstone, and a Senior Officer from Renfrewshire
Council, and they were made fully aware of the long standing
concerns in regard to Kilbarchan being used as a”rat run”by
traffic from the A 737, and congestion at the Co operative
store and the school.
It was recognised that the community as a whole requires to
be involved in seeking and implementing, any solution that
will deal effectively with these issues.
A number of short and long term initiatives which, include possible traffic calming
and enforcement measures will now be looked at by the police and council,
and when worked out will be subject of wider public consultation Some of the
initiatives will depend on funding and resources available, nonethess there was
a commitment on all sides to endeavour to help ease the problems currently
affecting the village.
Heightened concerns in Lochwinnoch, about the issue of recent crime and anti
social behaviour, were the subject of a separate meeting at the beginning of May
between Senior Officers from Johnstone police and all 3 ward councillors.
Such behaviour is unacceptable and requires a firm response.
The main points of the discussion were, police presence and action, the
councils housing allocation policy and supporting the community to report such
incidents.
At the meeting the issue of possible anti social behaviour in Glentyan woods
Kilbarchan and the public park was also raised. This has unfortunately been a
feature of recent summers and necessary action will be taken should it re occur.
Many thanks are due to members and supporters of the Kilbarchan Smile group
who, recently undertook a litter pick in the village. Their terrific work and the
subsequent fine weather showed Kilbarchan in all its splendour.
Lets hope the fine weather continues, and helps the respective Lilias day, and
Gala day committees who as usual are working tirelessly on these special
summer events.
I hope you enjoy these great traditional events.
My surgeries are on the first Saturday of the month, except January and July at
9am in the McKillop Institute and 10am in the Steeple Hall.
Old Library Centre
The Old Library Centre is closing for the month of July. It will close on Thursday
30th June and re-open on Tuesday, 2nd August.
It is difficult to think of the Autumn Session but now is the time to ensure that
you have booked your place in one of our activities. If you are 1 to 5 years of age
and a grown up will take you why not come to the First Love Music and or the
Tuesday Toddlers group. If you are too old for toddlers and want to keep youthful
we have classes in Yoga and Pilates. Maybe you would like to keep your brain
active by joining the Friday Bridge or the Family and Social History or the Book
Group. Perhaps you would prefer to join the ladies craft group. You could help with
our garden. The Centre is open Monday to Friday and you can come along to the
Reading Room to choose a book, read a magazine, make yourself a cup of Tea or
Coffee and meet other folk to chat. Details of the Centre’s activities are displayed
on its windows and on the village notice board
Kilbarchan Improvement Projects, the charity registered group which runs the
Centre, have some news.
Ian Campbell has been volunteering since 2006 and a member of the Board for
the past six years. He has helped many people with their computing problems,
given advice to them and been the computer expert of the Centre. He has
tendered his resignation from the Board as from 30th May. However we are
pleased that he has said that he will continue to volunteer at the Centre when he
can and we look forward to this.
