Killellan Kirk Carnival
The popular annual Houston and Killellan Kirk
Carnival had scorching weather this year which
made it a great success. The theme was Star
Wars, so here is Cllr Andy Doig and his wife,
Cllr Audrey Doig, meeting a very convincing
Princess Leia lookalike.

As mentioned in the December issue of the Advertizer, and as
a reminder, the Household Waste Recycling Centre in Linwood
is being converted to a self service “bring site” supported by
a small mobile staffing resource operating during opening
times.
The site is currently fully operational and will be until at least
the end of June before the change over.
After that the site will only be open for the disposal of residual
waste, mixed recycles, textiles and a limited level of garden
waste.
Larger items of waste including white goods, electrical goods,
scrap, wood and household hazardous waste are being
directed to the Recycling Centre at the Underwood Road depot in Paisley.
Congratulations to the dedicated team who have been instrumental in improving
the look of the villages by their efforts in removing litter from all areas where it
has accumulated over many months. Another visible improvement has been the
removal of the broken fence and the clean up of the verge at the main roundabout
between Crosslee and Houston. The new replacement fence opens up the view
into Manse Field and hopefully this type of fence will prevent fly-posting.
I am still waiting for the roads and footpaths resurfacing programme for 2016/17
to be published as a number of roads in the villages are requiring major works
to be undertaken.
With voting for the Scottish Parliament now over, the next visit to the polling
station will be for the EU referendum on 23rd June followed by a breather before
the Local Government elections in May 2017. The Boundary Commission have
still to publish the Local Government boundaries that are awaited with particular
interest by our communities after their response to the public consultation late
last year.

Houston and Killellan Agricultural Show
The show will be held on Saturday 4th June. Hopefully this year the weather will
be kinder to us and the show will go ahead. As usual there will be a wide variety
of stalls and the big event Houstons Got Talent which is hugely popular with
everyone. Schedules for the Craft and Baking Section are available from the Post
Office and the Paper Shop, North Street, Houston.

Roll Up, Roll Up, It's Houston Show Time
Houston Show – Saturday 4th June
Come along and join us in the Playing Fields right in the heart of Houston Village
for our annual show. Gates are open from 10.30am for a fun filled family day out.
See our cattle, sheep and heavy horses being judged – who will be best in the
show? Watch the light horse competition with hunter, cross country and show
jumping classes taking place all day. Visit the secretary’s tent before 12.30pm
and enter your prize pooch into the dog show. See talented local school children
perform in our Houston’s Got Talent competition and see all the fantastic entries
in our craft and baking section. Schedules for the Craft and Baking Section are
available from the Post Office and the Paper Shop, North Street, Houston.
