for Family Caregivers<br />

Care Compass is an innovative online portal allowing family<br />

caregivers to either self-administer or use the telephone for intake<br />

and assessment components and to access information, training,<br />

resources and services through personalized dashboards.<br />

Preliminary evaluation results will be shared across three pilot test<br />

sites. The sample includes caregivers providing care to adults with<br />

chronic care conditions and cognitive impairments.<br />

Transportation System<br />

Learn how Waukesha County, Wisconsin, is dealing with its<br />

fractured specialized transportation system. This session will<br />

present efforts to research, design, test and implement a<br />

one-call, one-click system utilizing collective impact and design<br />

thinking. Learn how unexpected partners are working together<br />

to make sure that every older adult has access to transportation.<br />

Seniors Using Wearable Technology<br />

This session is part of a Constituent Group program presented by<br />

ASA’s Network on Environments, Services and Technologies (NEST).<br />

One in two hospital re-admissions are those over the age of 65.<br />

What if, upon discharge, a senior could receive a wearable<br />

device to track activity and heartbeat to empower them to<br />

proactively support their health and wellness? This session will<br />

answer that question and illustrate the efficacy of wearables for<br />

seniors. It will discuss how an analytics platform could help<br />

benchmark and capture trends to provide real-time data to<br />

support care.<br />

WE437 New Technologies Supporting Creation and<br />

Sharing in Art Therapy With Older Adults<br />

This workshop shares research undertaken in an assisted living<br />

and skilled nursing setting, exploring how technology can enhance<br />

art therapy to empower older adults with cognitive impairment.<br />

Interactive technologies can extend the reach of resident voices<br />

within the care venue, encouraging other community members to<br />

view them as creative and engaged individuals.<br />

Learn how University of Illinois Extension’s educators have been<br />

providing outreach education on brain health for 10 years<br />

through workshops and webinars. Their statewide initiative<br />

seeks to educate the public about age-related memory problems<br />

versus abnormal loss to better validate their concerns and<br />

promote strategies that contribute to a healthy mind and body.<br />

WE443 Breaking the Mold: Innovatively<br />

Designing Space to Foster Community<br />

and Improve Health<br />

Social isolation and declining health are common among older<br />

adults. This workshop will share an innovative approach to<br />

designing space, one that moves beyond functionality and<br />

enables older adults to build community and improve their<br />

health and quality of life. Through the lens of Town Hall Apartments,<br />

Chicago’s first LGBT-friendly senior housing project, we<br />

will demonstrate how the project team worked to create a place<br />

for residents to flourish.<br />

In spite of recent discussion across the nation regarding the<br />

viability of senior centers, Longmont Senior Services in Colorado<br />

has been operating and growing a successful facility for more<br />

than 40 years. It continues to thrive and draw new customers<br />

and partners. Join us to learn the elements that have contributed<br />

to building and sustaining this senior center.<br />
