This presentation will address the powerful impact of intergenerational<br />
legacy work. Using case studies from Lasting Impressions:<br />
DOROT’s Legacy Project, we will demonstrate how pairing<br />
older adults with teens and college volunteers promotes healthy<br />
aging, provides opportunity to find meaning and attend to<br />
unfinished business, increases happiness, fosters intergenerational<br />
appreciation and connection and can be accomplished<br />
regardless of physical strength.<br />

powerful a reverse mortgage can be when implemented correctly.<br />

for older Americans, while maintaining home ownership.<br />

Village Movement using data from a 2016 organizational survey<br />
of operational villages nationwide. We will describe changes the<br />
organizational field has undergone over the last four years,<br />
including auspices, fees, services, member characteristics,<br />
village coalitions and factors associated with village failure.<br />

that people with dementia tend to exhibit, and will describe<br />
specific strategies for communicating based on these<br />
strengths. We’ll explore the importance of belonging and ways<br />
to communicate based on strengths to ensure that a sense of<br />
belonging occurs for both the caregiver and the person<br />
experiencing dementia. Improved relationships and reduction<br />
of challenging behaviors result.<br />

Caregiving: Five Years in Retrospect<br />

Recognizing the pivotal role played by friends and family<br />
caregivers, the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation attracted<br />
significant private funding in 2011 enabling us to reshape and<br />
transform caregiver services and supports. In this session, we<br />
will revisit our five years of learning about caregiver self-identification,<br />
developing program models suited to the realities of<br />
today’s caregivers and galvanizing community networks in<br />
support of caregivers.<br />
