Health & Beauty
Active April
Wealden Times talks to personal trainer and nutrit ionist Sarah-Jane Holt...
Do you have a beauty
regime? I cleanse and
moisturise but that’s as
complicated as it gets. I use
natural organic products as
much as possible. Caudalie
foaming face wash is a
god-send as it’s quick and
easy to use in the shower.
Beyond products I drink
two litres of water a day
and focus on including a
wide variety of vegetables
in my diet. Being hydrated
and making sure you are
eating enough vitamins and
minerals really will make
such a difference to the skin.
Beauty does come from
within in more ways than
one and what you put into
your body will reflect itself
in the way you feel and look.
Do you have a particular
product you couldn’t
live without? Mascara, no
matter how I feel a bit of
mascara will always make
me feel a bit better!
What’s your ultimate
pampering treat? A back
That essential Easter icon, the
hen’s egg, is nature’s perfect
convenience food. With
an abundance of essential
vitamins, minerals and a highprotein
content (they contain
all eight essential amino
acids) eggs make a delicious,
affordable and versatile
contribution to a healthy diet.
In the past, cholesterol
levels in eggs were
considered a health risk and
recommendations were made
that they should be limited to
four a week. These findings
massage! Training a lot
throughout the week
can really affect muscle
tension and tightness and
a good deep tissue massage
can certainly make a big
difference, plus it’s super
relaxing so a win all round!
Who’s your style icon? I
don’t really have a style icon
but someone who I really
look up to in more ways
than just their look is Jessica
Ennis. Her ability, power
and talent is incredibly
inspiring, beyond that she is
Go to work on an egg...
have now been over-turned
by new research which shows
that cholesterol in food has a
much smaller effect on blood
levels of total cholesterol, and
harmful LDL cholesterol,
than was previously thought.
With a clean bill of health,
all major organisations
– including the British
Heart Foundation and the
Department for Health –
now recommend eggs as
part of a healthy diet.
Their high protein content
makes eggs a great breakfast
a great ambassador for sport
and fitness and I think a
role model for all women.
Having previously trained
and worked as an actress,
Sarah-Jane now works
as a personal trainer and
nutritionist with Matt
Roberts in London and
with private clients in Kent.
Sarah-Jane will be speaking
in the Healthy Living
Theatre at Wealden
Times Midsummer Fair
on Healthy Habits
for Busy Mums.
if you’re looking to lose
weight: they’ll make you feel
fuller for longer and there
are only 78 calories in every
egg. A word of advice, boiled,
poached and scrambled are
best, avoid a fatty fry-up -
that would be egg-sessive!
Soft Touch...
Arbonne’s ABC baby range
comprises a Body Lotion,
Hair & Body Wash, Nappy
Cream and Sunscreen.
Naturally inspired and
scientifically tested, each of
the formulas are a blend of
mild, soothing ingredients
like chamomile, aloe vera and
calendula that are safe to use
on a baby’s delicate skin. WT
testers especially loved the
Water Resistant Sunscreen
SPF 30 which provided an
effective barrier against the
sun’s damaging rays without
a whole host of chemical
nasties that pop up in other
sun protection lotions. The
Nappy Cream came in a close
second with a smooth and
silky texture that formed an
excellent moisture barrier to
help keep baby’s bottom rash
free. Prices start at £17. To
