The WI<br />

The <strong>Norden</strong> W.I. meet at<br />

Cutgate Baptist Church at 7.30pm for<br />

7.45pm start on the first Wednesday of each<br />

month. <strong>Norden</strong> WI host lots of interesting<br />

events and talks throughout the year.<br />

The <strong>May</strong> meeting on the 8th <strong>May</strong>. It is the<br />

18th Birthday of <strong>Norden</strong> WI and we are to<br />

be entertained by Senior Moments followed<br />

by Potato Pie or cheese and onion pie<br />

supper.Visitors and new members very<br />

<strong>Norden</strong> & District Local History Society<br />

onwards.<br />

Monday<br />

The next meeting of <strong>Norden</strong> & District Local<br />

History Society will be Monday 8th <strong>May</strong>,<br />

7pm <strong>Norden</strong> Bowling Club, Trinity Street.<br />

The next guest speak will be Ian Gibson<br />

- 'Turning the Screw'. He will talk about<br />

the background of the Lancashire textile<br />

industry and how its mechanisation<br />

developed. 'Turning the Screw' relates to the<br />

development and subsequent replication of<br />

interchangeable parts which made huge<br />

differences to the speed of progress and<br />

mechanisation of the industry. The talk<br />

concludes with a look at what survives of the<br />

industry within the heritage sector and in the<br />

region. New members and visitors welcome,<br />

Syke Walk and Talk Group<br />

The Syke Walk and Talk Group meet every<br />

Monday at 1.00 pm and Friday 10.00am at<br />

Syke Methodist Chapel where there will be<br />

toilet facilities and hot drinks and<br />

socialising after the walks. There are 2 levels<br />

on the walk on Monday, a high quick walk<br />

and a slower one. There are also three levels<br />

on a Friday. A high fast walk, an<br />

intermediate walk and a slower one if<br />

needed. So there is something to suit<br />

everyone and all abilities. The Syke Walk<br />

and Talk group also meet on Tuesday at<br />

10am from outside the Doctors Surgery at<br />

the Cutgate shopping precinct.<br />

Queens Park Walk and Talk Group<br />

The Queens Park Walk and Talk Group meet<br />

every Thursday at 10am outside the Queens<br />

park café.Queens park road Heywood, OL10<br />

4UY. The group do a 60 to 90 minute walk<br />

each week. This is suitable for people<br />

wishing to increase their activity level, meet<br />

socially and make new friends. The walks<br />

are free and lead by volunteer walk leaders.<br />

After the walks the group returns to the<br />

library for refreshments and a friendly chat.<br />

Please make sure you have suitable outdoor<br />

walking shoes or boots.<br />

<strong>Bamford</strong> and <strong>Norden</strong>’s Womens Club<br />

We are a friendly club meeting every<br />

Tuesday evening at <strong>Norden</strong> Community<br />

School, Shawfield Lane, <strong>Norden</strong>.<br />

We have speakers, social evenings,<br />

demonstrations, outings and theatre trips.<br />

Future evenings are Touchstones, memories<br />

of the land army, old Milnrow, History of<br />

sleeping arrangements, Beetle drive, Black<br />

Panther, Shakespeare in Lancashire, Aloe<br />

Vera and a fashion show by Bon Marche. We<br />

welcome new members.<br />

Springhill Hospice Events<br />

Friday 28th April – The Women of<br />

Rochdale<br />

Watch as the Woman of Rochdale <strong>2017</strong> is<br />

crowned and help her celebrate with a three<br />

course meal and fizz reception. From<br />

11.30am, Rochdale Town Hall.<br />

Sunday 30th April – Hospice To Hospice<br />

Walk<br />

A fun and friendly 7¼ mile circular family<br />

walk from Springhill Hospice to Dr Kershaw’s<br />

Hospice, Oldham and return. Starts from<br />

10.30am at Springhill Hospice.<br />

Friday 12th <strong>May</strong> – Go Green<br />

We are inviting everyone in the Borough to<br />

embrace our colour, GREEN, for the day.<br />

Great fun for all and a chance to help us<br />

raise much needed funds. For further details<br />

<strong>Norden</strong> Card Craft Club<br />

We are a friendly card making group which<br />

has flourished on the exchange of ideas. We<br />

meet Tuesday afternoons at the Unitarian<br />

Church on Clover Street at 1.30pm. All new<br />
