Tennessee needs a bathhouse The letter from Jake Kennedy, “Metro should focus on ‘real crime” (March 2006 issue, page 5), and the article by Cooper Pfeene, “Why I canceled my YMCA membership” (March 2006 issue, page 34), show the need in Nashville for a club like other cities have. For example: St. Louis, Columbus, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Ft. Lauderdale and New Orleans just to name a Drama queens and hissy fits After reading the article in the March issue by Cooper Pfeene (stage name), “Why I canceled my YMCA membership,” (March 2006 issue, page 34) I just had to write. The only thing worse than inappropriate sexual behavior at the Y, is some drama queen throwing a hissy fit at the Y. I have to ask, how did he get that stick up his butt being so anal-retentive? Gary Hinshaw glhinshaw@pstcc.edu few. If we had such a place the “married gays” would have a place they probably could find sex and those of us who enjoy “sex clubs” could spend our money locally or at least in Tennessee. James E. Gipson bj@mailbug.com Where have all the gay clubs gone? I live in Murfreesboro and made one of my rare trips into Nashville last week. I read and enjoy your paper. At 52, I have lived in the Nashville, Franklin and Murfreesboro areas most all of my life. I went to the Nashville clubs back when the Jungle, Juanita’s, the Other Side, the old Cabaret and the Tool Room were in existence. When last call was yelled, we would all head over to Malone’s Diner until the sun came up. I noticed you include Clarksville along with four major Tennessee cities on your banner. I can remember going into the Clarksville club years ago, with all those hunky Fort Campbell soldiers and cute Austin Peay boys. My question is this: why doesn’t Murfreesboro have any clubs? I have lived here now for a year (went to college here eons With the announcement on Monday, March 14, 2006, of 19 conservative groups calling for the reinstatement of a boycott of Ford Motor Co., I am reminded of our obligations to those companies that do support GLBT communities, organizations, and employees. Ford has a long history of support within our community. Ford products now needs us! If you are in the market for a new car, ago), and you would think with a population of 80,000 (larger than Clarksville), and an MTSU student population of 37,000 (larger than UT Knoxville now), there would be a club here. There are no rainbow flags flying, no legitimate bookstores, and as far as I know, no organized gay group on MTSU campus. I do know there are a lot of gay guys and lesbians in the ’Boro, and when I ask, they all seem despondent and in great want of a club they can call their own here. It might be a good story to pick up and find out what makes this city so ignorant of its large gay population. I will lend my two cents if you think it would make good reading. Terry Mayo Murfreesboro, Tenn. Support for Ford Motor Company consider a Ford product. They have a vast array of options. They may not have that cute little convertible roadster you have been dreaming of, but they do have your best interest at heart; they support your community.
