“It looks like we<br />

female team, which will take us <strong>to</strong> nine<br />
teams,” says McDaniel, who is searching for<br />
sponsors for t<strong>he</strong> additional team. Funds are<br />
needed for start-up fees and jerseys.<br />

Leadership Council speaker’s bureau<br />
<strong>to</strong> address marriage ballot initiative<br />
T<strong>he</strong> Greater Knoxville LGBTQ Leadership<br />
Council h<strong>as</strong> a speaker’s bureau poised <strong>to</strong><br />
address t<strong>he</strong> upcoming marriage ballot initiative<br />
that will go <strong>be</strong>fore Tennessee voters in<br />
Novem<strong>be</strong>r.<br />
In conjunction with local mem<strong>be</strong>rs of t<strong>he</strong><br />
Tennessee Equality Project, t<strong>he</strong> GKLLC<br />
speaker’s bureau hopes <strong>to</strong> speak <strong>to</strong> t<strong>he</strong> concerns<br />
regarding t<strong>he</strong> upcoming vote.<br />
Marriage equality is already outlawed in<br />
Tennessee. A law defining marriage <strong>as</strong> solely<br />
<strong>be</strong>tween one man and one woman h<strong>as</strong> <strong>be</strong>en<br />
on t<strong>he</strong> books since 1996. T<strong>he</strong> ballot initiative’s<br />
supporters hope <strong>to</strong> ban marriage equality<br />
forever by altering our Tennessee State<br />
Constitution in t<strong>he</strong> upcoming election. T<strong>he</strong><br />
me<strong>as</strong>ure would also invalidate same-sex marriages<br />
solemnized outside t<strong>he</strong> state of<br />
Tennessee.<br />
