On behalf of our school
and community I would like
to congratulate the abovementioned
parents on their
election and thank them for
the time and energy that they
so kindly share for the wellbeing
of our school and our
learners. During our meeting
we also discussed fundraisers,
and it was decided that we will
focus on two main fundraisers,
namely: a golf day and our soap
box day. The decision was also
taken that parents and learners
will be consulted on where the
raised funds should be spent (a
separate letter in this regard to
follow).
Our learners have all received
their first term reports. Although
you had the opportunity during
the parent evenings to meet
with the teachers, I would like
to emphasize the importance of
collaboration between parents
and teachers in the case of
academic or general concerns.
Contact between teachers and
parents should not be limited
to parent evenings and I invite
our parents to make contact
with our teachers if you need
assistance and support.
The Operational head of our high
school will only be appointed
from 1 August. Mr Izak Nagel
will be the acting Operational
head of the high school in the
interim. During this time Mr Dirk
Steenkamp will act as the FET
Phase head in the place of Mr
Nagel. I would like to wish these
two staff members all of the best
in their new roles and with their
responsibilities.
As part of our school’s marketing
campaign, we will have an
exhibition in the Kolonnade
shopping mall from 2 - 7 May.
You are welcome to come and
visit us, but I would also like to
encourage you to market our
school and invite prospective
parents to visit our stall during
this time. The exhibition at the
Kolonnade will culminate with
the highlight of our marketing
campaign, our Open Day on 10
May. We have made significant
changes to our Open day and
so the Open Day will be from
15:00 - 18:00 (the Castle open
day will be from 10:00 - 11:00).
I would again like to encourage
you, as parents and learners,
to contact prospective parents
and learners and invite them to
come and visit our school during
the Open Day. The Astro and the
building of our new high school
is creating a lot of excitement,
not only in our school but also in
the surrounding communities.
This is the ideal opportunity to
market our wonderful school.

Those of you familiar
with the work of
Stephen R Covey,
The Seven Habits of highly
effective people, will know
that habit 4 is thinking winwin.
The staff at the high school
has set for themselves and
for our grade 12s, high
expectations. We want
to build on the wonderful
achievements of last year
and the legacy that Dr Lalla
has left behind. Whenever
I discuss the goals with
the staff and grade 12s, I
cannot help to think about
the analogy of how to eat
an elephant. We need you
as parents to remind your
children to work hard every
day in order to achieve their
goals – little bit by little bit.
If Curro Roodeplaat achieve
its goals, it means that our
grade 12s achieved theirs.
We have a very busy term
ahead of us and we realise
and acknowledge that
proper planning is essential,

therefore management has
decided that we will send
out a weekly programme on
the Friday prior to that week.
You will receive an email
with the programme and it
will also be on our school’s
web page.
The most important thing
to take note of for this term
is the June exam. We urge
learners to start preparing
in advance. There are also
other forms of assessment
taking place and the
assessment programme
was pushed to the learners’
tablets on Friday including
the assessment dates on
it. It is not only a busy term
in terms of academics, but
also on the sport field. With
the winter sport already in
full swing we want to wish
all our teams the best with
their respective league
matches. There will also
be tennis and chess this
term as well as pre-season
cross country training. The
dancing and other culture
activities will carry on as
usual and learners must
please ensure that they plan
in advance and get to all the
respective practices.
Cold winter weather
can already be felt early
morning! The formal switch
to winter wear will start on
Monday, 15 May. Your child
may, however, wear winter
uniform during the first two
weeks of May if they feel like
it. Please note that summer
uniform and winter uniform
must never be mixed. We
are aware of the problems
you are experiencing with
your clothing orders at Grit.
We would like you to save
the date for our annual
International day of Families
celebration which will
take place on the 15 May
between 8:00-9:00.

part in the South African Championships of
Performing Arts starts.

“You haven’t learn anything
until you take action and
use it”

After a very busy first
term, the holiday
was welcomed
by both learners and
educators alike. Not
everybody, however, sat
back and relaxed! Our
rugby players and coaches
sharpened their skills,
practiced game plans and
built team spirit! Culture did
not stay behind and many
of our dancers took part
in the SA championships
in Johannesburg. We are
proud of all our learners!
The second term has
also started in full swing.
“Bulletjie” rugby and mininetball
festivals have
already taken place.
Rugby trials have started
and Curro Roodeplaat
made their mark during
the recent Curro sport
regionals! (Results under
the sport division)
Eight of our learners
participated in the “ATKV
redenaars” the past
weekend at Menlopark
High School and did us
proud! Proudly Curro
Roodeplaat!
Cross country practice
already started on
Tuesday, 25 April. Practice
days, times and preseason
dates are available
on the website.
Please note that the
Primary school (grade 1-7)
will be closed on Tuesday,
16 May for Curro educator
training. Curro Roodeplaat
is hosting approximately
250 educators from our
region. Provision will be
made for learners who need
supervision for the day.
Grade R educators have
their training on Thursday,
18 May starting at 13:00
and their academic day will
end at 11:30. Supervision
will be available until 13:00
for learners who can’t be
fetched.
The chill of winter can
already be felt early
morning! As of Monday,
15 May it is compulsory for
all learners to wear winter
uniform. During the first
two weeks of May either
full summer- or full winter
uniform may be worn.
Please take note that the
two may not be mixed. On
KDA days, your child must
wear the school tracksuit
and sport “tekkies” with
the KDA clothes. We are
aware of the problems you
are experiencing with your
clothing orders at Grit.

Adventures
“Forget dancing like no
one is watching....Dance like a toddler.
They don’t even care if there’s music!”
Joy, joy and more joy… It’s so much
fun to welcome our toddlers back
after the holiday! It’s lovely to see
how they missed our teachers and our
school.
Welcome to our new toddlers and
parents. We believe that you will quickly
become part of our Castle family. Take a
peep at our photo gallery to see how cute
the different culture groups were on our
Culture day last term.
We have a busy term ahead of us. Our
MasterChef competition set for 10 June
is around the corner. Khumo Ntoedibe
(from the Mouse class 2016) and her
parents won third place last year. You can
see the photos in our gallery. Let’s see if
a toddler with her/his Mommy/Daddy can
skip away with the first prize this year!
We need you as partners to make this
fundraising event a huge success. We
will be needing the following please:
1. Cash donations for purchasing the
ingredients for our pantry.
2. Three gifts (for our judges).
3. First, second and third prizes for our
winners, and a fourth prize for best
workstation.
Entries for competition will open from
3 May 2017. Guess our MasterChef’s
bear’s name at R10 per guess, and
you can win a prize! The bear will be on
display in the foyer for the month of May.
Curro Roodeplaat is hosting an expo at
Kolonnade from 2 – 7 May. Please come
and say hello.
We are looking forward to a blessed
second term.

INFORMATION
1. As we move into the winter season
we would like to ask you not to send
medication to school. It creates a difficult
situation for the staff to explain over and
over again that this is not allowed and is
against policy. We advise that you keep your
toddler at home until the medicine gives
relief.
2. It is of utmost importance that you
sign the register in the morning and
afternoon as this is for your
own child’s safety.
