VIT UNIVERSITY’S TRAILBLAZING WAYS
Founded in 1984 as Vellore
Engineering College, the institute
was granted university status
in 2001. It has a main campus at
Vellore and an off-campus at Chennai.
Spread over 366 acres, the institute
has excellent infrastructure to provide
conducive learning atmosphere.
Different academic and research
programmes are offered by 11 different
schools that include Engineering,
Technology, Science, Languages, Law
and Management disciplines. About
56 per cent of the faculty members
are doctorates and many of them have
prior experience in industries and / or
research institutions.
The university has been reaccredited
(cycle 3) with ‘A’ grade by
National Assessment and Accreditation
Council (NAAC). It has also been
placed in category ‘A’ by the MHRD.

agencies. Both the campuses have a
central library which has the repository
of books, back volumes and journals
– all these are available in both hard
copies and in e-mode. The campuses
are Wi-Fi enabled which helps the
students and faculty members to
access the e-materials from any place
within the campus. The university
offers several programmes in science,
engineering, technology, management
and law. As of today 20 undergraduate,
38 postgraduate and four research
courses are being offered. In addition
to teaching, the faculty members are
required to be involved in research
activities. The university provides
necessary financial support for starting
research projects and encourages
faculty members to secure grants from
different funding agencies. Adequate
finance is mobilised to enhance the
quality of research.
Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA)
University continues to
maintain its supremacy in the
field of higher education in Odisha.
For the second successive year it
is the no. 1 university in the state.
According to the India Rankings
2017 conducted under National
Institutional Ranking Framework
(NIRF) by the Union Ministry of
Human Resource Development,
SOA University occupies the 20th
position in the country. This is the
only institute from Odisha among
the top 25 universities in the all India
rankings for the current year.
Located in the picturesque capital
city of Bhubaneswar, SOA Deemed
University is a private institute mainly
focused on research and innovative
thinking. The university is composed
of nine degree-granting schools and
colleges and has a student body of
around 10,000. ITER is the Faculty of
Engineering and Technology of SOA
University. It is located in Campus 1
of the University. ITER is the oldest
constituent institute of the university
and has been around since 1997. It
has grown from a fledgling campus
with a single three storied building
(Academic Block) to one of the best
engineering campuses in eastern
India. Institute of Medical Sciences
and SUM Hospital, established in
2005, is a leading medical institute
providing quality medical education
and global standard health care
services. The Medical Council of India,
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,
Government of India has approved
the MBBS programme of the institute
since 2007-2008.
