SPECIAL
A NEW INNOVATION LAB IN DELHI
PUBLIC SCHOOL, SONEPAT
It has been said that science that
isn’t hands-on isn’t science at all.
And when you leave the children
to play or tinker with the materials
then something stunning and
innovative comes out. The importance
of providing children with direct
experiences with materials, objects,
and phenomena to encourage personal
understanding of a lesson or subject is
nowhere more apparent—and crucial—
than in science lessons. While scientific
information can be remembered when
taught through books and lectures,
when children study the same concepts
through hands-on learning, they build a
functional understanding and develop
the ability to become independent
learners.
In a significant move to boost
innovation, NITI Aayog of Government
of India has initiated the process
for setting up 500 tinkering labs in
schools and 100 incubation centres
across the country. Under the mission,
the government will also provide
financial support to academic and
non-academic institutions to establish
new ATAL Incubation Centres across
the country. They will be established in
areas such as manufacturing, transport,
energy, health, education, agriculture,
water and sanitation. The institutions
have been shortlisted by the Aayog
on the basis of key performance
indicators.
It’s a proud moment for everybody
in DPS Sonepat family to share that
Delhi Public School Sonepat is among
one of the schools which has been
selected on the basis of the innovative
Science Projects presented to the
Aayog contributed by the fervent
students and the team of enthusiastic
science teachers. The laboratory is
expected to be up and running by July
2017 in Delhi Public School Sonepat
campus. The students can start to
engage in experiences at different
levels which may be challenging them
mentally and stimulate their minds.
