PATROLS<br />

• Strapped to boards (for detonation from around<br />

corners).<br />

4-92. MP record the exact location of the mines on DA<br />

Form 1355-1-R (Figure 4-7) when emplacing the<br />

minefield. This enables anyone to recover them. If<br />

possible, the unit should recover the mines before the<br />

unit relocates, and the same persons who emplaced<br />

them should recover them.<br />

4-93. MP are organized and equipped to conduct<br />

mounted operations. The primary offensive weapon<br />

system is the MK19. It is designed as a mounted or<br />

static position weapon. However, an MP platoon may<br />

conduct limited dismounted operations with its other<br />

organic weapons. Refer to <strong>FM</strong> 7-8 for more information<br />

about patrol operations, including organization,<br />

planning, and execution. In general, an MP platoon may<br />

be required to conduct reconnaissance and combat<br />

patrols.<br />

RECONNAISSANCE PATROLS<br />

4-94. Dismounted reconnaissance patrols are directed<br />

by higher HQ and conducted to gather detailed<br />

information on the enemy, terrain, specific NAIs, or<br />

avenuesofapproach.Whenexecutedaspartofascreen<br />

or other security mission, a reconnaissance patrol can<br />

ensure the security of an OP/LP or the platoon's<br />

defensive perimeter. This is also referred to as a security<br />

patrol. Refer to Chapter 6 for area and zone<br />

reconnaissance.<br />

COMBAT PATROLS<br />

4-95. An MP platoon may conduct a combat patrol to<br />

establish an ambush on a dismounted enemy avenue of<br />

approach.<br />
