6-149. Refer to <strong>FM</strong> 90-10-1 for information about<br />

attacking on urban terrain.<br />

Respond to Downed Aircraft<br />

6-150. MP are often required to respond to downed<br />

aircraft. This specialized mission requires close<br />

coordination with aviation assets. In the event of a<br />

downed aircraft, the primary mission is to safeguard the<br />

aircraft, render first aid to the crew, evacuate the<br />

wounded, and secure the crash site. Normally, this<br />

requires MP to be airlifted to the crash site.<br />

6-151. MP leaders plan for downed-aircraft rescue<br />

operations as a contingency mission. The primary<br />

concern is the safety of personnel onboard the aircraft.<br />

The MP leader establishes preplanned lift packages for a<br />

mounted or dismounted platoon-size downed-aircraft<br />

response force. When organized for downed-aircraft<br />

operations, the force must meet the following<br />

requirements:<br />

• Possess cross-country capability.<br />

• Be prepared to defend the site against Levels I<br />

and II threats.<br />

• Have internal medical support to treat and<br />

evacuate injured personnel.<br />

6-152. Engineer support may be necessary to clear lanes<br />

to the downed aircraft and medical evacuation<br />

(MEDEVAC) LZs.<br />

6-153. Once the response force arrives at the crash site,<br />

the platoon leader immediately establishes security and<br />

notifies higher HQ of the exact location, the type of<br />

aircraft, and the number of wounded or killed personnel.<br />

Medical personnel treat the injured and prepare them<br />

for evacuation. The platoon leader selects and secures a<br />

MEDEVAC LZ. Once all the injured personnel have
