6-88 Area Security<br />

6-264. MP must remain alert at all times and provide<br />

constant security to the protected person. MP provide<br />

security by—<br />

• Restricting the circulation of unauthorized<br />

•<br />

personnel around the protected person.<br />

Remaining a short distance from the protected<br />

person.<br />

• Taking positions where they can observe<br />

•<br />

everything and everyone near the protected<br />

person.<br />

Securing the facility of the protected person, but<br />

notenteringiftheprotectedpersondoes.<br />

• Maintaining<br />

higher HQ.<br />

6-265. When required to secure a designated person<br />

while moving, the mode of transportation must be<br />

guarded at all times. Vehicle security normally requires<br />

a protected vehicle to transport the designated person,<br />

security vehicles to react to threats, and an advance<br />

team to travel ahead of the motorcade to provide early<br />

warning of threats or hazards before the main body is<br />

affected.<br />

6-266. Regardless of the method of transportation, each<br />

situation must be evaluated to determine the degree of<br />

security that is practical and necessary. Good judgment<br />

on the part of the OIC will be necessary in solving the<br />

various situations that may exist. Refer to <strong>FM</strong> 3-19.30<br />

for more information about the security of designated<br />

personnel.
