I discovered recently that there are far more parents who
could claim free school meals for their children than actually
do so. Gryffe High School has a very low take up of free
school meals which tends to contradict the pattern shown
in the primary schools. Parents may not be aware that the
number of children claiming free school meals affects what
is called Pupil Equity Funding. The amount of extra funding
is based on the number of pupils with Free Meal Entitlement.
Gryffe HS gets significantly less than other schools and this is
largely down to parents not claiming this entitlement. Gryffe
HS gets £34,400 made up of Attainment Challenge Money
and Pupil Equity Funding. This compares with other schools
in Renfrewshire which range from £140,000 up to £300,000. This difference is
significant and affects the quality of teaching that is able to be provided.
Renfrewshire Council has announced its Capital Investment Plan for Roads of
£6.7m and most people in my ward will want to know which roads are going to be
resurfaced. The amount of resurfacing in the three villages is as follows (some
roads are fully resurfaced while others are only partly to be done, I can provide
more information) but I keep stressing that I want to see more done about the
blocked gullies and poor drainage that continually erodes this investment.
