Clyde Muirshiel Munchkins: This month<br />

this Brand NEW Pre 5’s Nature Club will<br />

meet the Wise Owl. It’s on at the Greenock<br />

Cut Visitor Centre on Wed 16 <strong>July</strong>, 10.30-<br />

11.30am; full details including booking can<br />

be done online.<br />

Wild on Wednesdays: A summer holiday<br />

wildlife<br />

and survival skills club! Join us every<br />

week for some family fun. Book online,<br />

different topic every week.<br />

Pound & Pace <strong>2017</strong>: The annual<br />

charity walk attracted 45 walkers and<br />

raised over £200 for the Renfrewshire<br />

Classrooms to Malawi fund.<br />

Enter the BOG Stomp! The 10km off road trail run is back for <strong>2017</strong> on<br />

Sunday 3rd September. The event leaves Greenock Cut Visitor Centre<br />

and takes in a challenging (short but steep) Inverclyde hill, but you are<br />

rewarded with stunning views down the River Clyde. Enter via the Clyde<br />

Muirshiel website, price £20, £5 going to Erskine and includes medal &<br />

technical t-shirt. Look out your running shoes and get training now!<br />

Ride 63 Community Cycle Club: Tuesday evening is the current ride<br />

night, meeting outside RT Cycles in Glengarnock at 6.40pm or at Castle<br />

Semple at 7pm exact route depends on the weather and who shows<br />

up. The <strong>2017</strong> club ride calendar can be seen on the Club noticeboard<br />

at Castle Semple Visitor Centre. Contact the club on the ‘group style<br />

facebook page’ or email the secretary ridesixtythree@gmail.com for a<br />

membership form and ride info.<br />

Tag-n-Track Project update<br />

It’s time for the monthly roundup from Project Officer Hayley Douglas. TnT<br />

is funded by Heritage Lottery Fund, Greater Renfrewshire and Inverclyde<br />

LEADER and Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park.<br />

Project News<br />

What a busy month! We have managed to tag three Lesser Black-backed<br />

Gulls so far and the data has<br />

already started to come in. Two of<br />

our gulls, 10P:C and 9P5C were<br />

caught on the roof of Greenock<br />

Police station and are awaiting to<br />

be named by the local community<br />

the police work with. So far the<br />

data shows that both birds have<br />

completely different foraging habits.<br />

‘10P:C’ likes to go up to the local<br />

primary school to hoover up the<br />

leftovers whereas ‘9P5C’ prefers to<br />

take a tour around the countryside<br />

and feeds in the surrounding fields. After his three chicks hatched his<br />

movements changed again and he has started to head across the Clyde<br />

to feed.<br />

Our third gull, ‘15P:C’, was hand caught at Castle Semple Visitor Centre.<br />

After he was tagged he headed away to Dalry, then to Little Cumbrae<br />

before going to Horse Isle where it looks like he may have a nest. The<br />

tags collect data locations between 10-15 times a day. This means that<br />

our gulls may turn up at a location but we don’t get a data point which is<br />

what happened yesterday when 15P:C was spotted at 6pm feeding at the<br />

quarry pond at Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue along with 100+ other gulls.<br />

It’s amazing what we are discovering at the moment. Three gulls down,<br />

nine more to go.<br />

One of the projects aims is to train volunteers in the use of our camera<br />

traps. The joys of camera trapping are that you never know what you<br />

might capture. We are looking for volunteers to use and monitor our<br />

camera traps for 3 month periods. All training will be provided and it is<br />

something that only requires a couple of hours a week to collect and go<br />

through the footage. If you would like to find out more then please contact<br />

Event News<br />

Can you tell the lesser black-backed gull from<br />

the Greater? If not then join us for ‘Gallivanting<br />

with Gulls’. It’s a free guided walk to help<br />

improve your gull and other bird ID skills. They<br />

take place on Saturday the 8th of <strong>July</strong> at Lunderston Bay and on Sunday<br />

the 9th of <strong>July</strong> at Castle Semple Visitor Centre, both 1-2.30pm. You can<br />

book your FREE place online at www.clydemuirshiel.co.uk or by phoning<br />

01505 614 791 in office hours.<br />
