Lilias Day and Lilifest Success
Despite the torential rain, hailstones, thunder and lightening Kilbarchan Lilias Day was a great success.
Around 3,000 people turned out to support the day and join in the fun. After the brief downpour the sun
came out and the festivities continued.
Graeme Stockton said “it was fantastic to see so many smiling faces in the parade ... Even when the
hailstones began and that so many people were braving the elements to watch. We really appreciate all
the effort, time and creativity that people put in to making Lilias Day so special and unique”
With the sunshining, the festivities continued in the park with entertainment from Britannia XIV Battle Reenactment
taking on the kids of Kilbarchan; a grand tug of war with Kilbarchan Smile winning; the local
derby between Bridge of Weir and Kilbarchan Primary with an added bonus of commentry from Clyde 1 DJ
George Bowie; Jamie McArthurs music tent showcasing the best local up and coming talent and a whole
range of entertainments for kids.
Susan Calcluth, joint Chair added “for many of the local organisations such as the Scouts, The Kilbarchan
Pipe Band and Parish Church, Lilias Day is the their biggest fundraiser of the year. It’s great to see the
stalls do so well and the community supporting them in their fundraising efforts. Each year tens of
thousands of pounds are raised for local organisations, charities and good causes.”
