July 30, 2003 – April 16, 2016
Chaps was a wonder dog. His main purpose in life was to do what I wanted. His primary
sport was agility. But when we added tracking, he took to it like the champion he was.
Chaps’ first ASCA TD was earned at Nationals in Colorado on September 26, 2009. Five
and a half years later, on February 15, 2015, he passed his 2 nd TDX at a PASA test at Laguna
Seca, CA, to become the 3 rd Master Tracking Dog in ASCA history.
In between, Chaps passed a 2 nd TD on February 18, 2012 and his 1 st TDX two days later
at Laguna Sega and TD-3 at Nationals in Bakersfield, on November 2, 2012. We then went
through a two-year three-month period where Chaps failed four TDX tests, two beyond
his control. He was getting older and I feared the title would never happen. But like a true
champion, when Chaps perservered to find that last glove in Laguna Seca, he was really
proud. Chaps was a Master Tracker.
The Master Tracker was the beginning of Chaps’ last year of life. It was a good year. At
Nationals in Tennessee he achieved a 5 th in Veteran agility finals, 10+ Agility Finals
Champion, won HIT for 10+ Veteran in the Nationals Agility trial, and an ATCH X. He then
added rally RAX, REX and RM to his list of ASCA titles.
You were an amazing dog, Chaps. I will miss you forever.
