Getting Down to Business
From the President
Hello! I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer! I am
writing this in May, but by the time you read it, we will be deep
into July. I hope you and your Aussies are staying cool! By now
spring might seem like a faraway memory, but I want to focus your
attention back to the 2017 Spring Meeting. At the Spring Board
Meeting, the Directors approved the Strategic Plan for the year.
Please look over the 2017 Strategic Plan and see ASCA’s goal for
the next 12 months. Here are some of the goals that were set in
the 2016 Strategic Plan and were accomplished over the last 12
months:
• Complete first phases of ASCA’s new website and database.
• Improve ASCA’s Code of Conduct to support good behavior
at ASCA events.
• Create the Conflict Resolution Protocol to replace the old
Complaint Form; the focus of this new protocol is to resolve
problems as they happen.
• Create an annual recognition program for ASCA’s volunteers
– The first volunteers will be recognized at the 2017 Nationals
Banquet.
• Standardize Finals – The rosettes for Finals were standardized
and the Business Office will now handle the ordering of Finals
rosettes, which will be a big burden off of the hosting clubs
in the future.
• Celebrate Aussie performance by designating the May/June
Aussie Times back cover for the Rally Finals Winner and the
July/August for Tracking. Master Tracker awarded in year
would be recognized on the back cover or a selection from
the tracking committee if one is not available.
• Select a set of rotating sites for Nationals – The Board has
designated sites for the next eight years, achieving the goal
of securing good sites for future National Specialties. The
rotation will be 2017 Bryan, Texas; 2018 Greeley, Colorado;
2019 Bakersfield, California; 2020 Georgia International Horse
Park; 2021 Bryan, Texas; 2022 Greeley, Colorado; 2023 TBA
West Coast site; 2024 Georgia International Horse Park.
• Create the European Advisory Committee to advise the Board
on matter concerning our European members.
• Develop an Introduction to Stock Event proposal.
• Create a Dock Jumping program.
• Survey the membership to gauge interest in Nose Work and
Barn Hunt – Interest was high for these two events, and they
are on the 2017 Strategic Plan as possible future goals.
• Highlight Aussies in our AT and Aussie News that perform
outside of our standard programs.
• Investigate HOFX for dogs and bitches – It was decided that
this was not a good idea as it might promote overbreeding.
The process for setting the goals in the Strategic Plan begins
in September. If you have goals that you think should be added to
the 2018 Strategic Plan, please send your ideas to ASCA Executive
Secretary Kalla Jaco. The Board values your input!
Working for the success of ASCA and the breed we love!!
