The highlight of our show season is always the annual St. Judes
Benefit Weekend held in memory of Candance Heideman. This
year our raffle raised $1,693.05. Erin Swain, as she has done in
past years, did her Challenge to match, which was met for a total
of $800. Our judges generously requested their fees to be donated
adding $253, bringing the total raised to $2,746.05. Our club then
donated proceeds from the weekend in the amount of $1,253.95
bringing the total amount we sent to St. Judes Hospital this year to
an even $4,000!
Our educational opportunity for the year was an Agility Seminar
instructed by Kallie Bontrager held at Lake Michigan Farm, which
was followed by a BBQ, because we like to play as hard as we
work! Speaking of working hard, we would like to pay recognition
to our members and new titles (emboldened) they and their dogs
have earned this past year;
NORTH WOODS ASC
Denise Yokom, Affiliate Representative, dyokom@live.com
The North Woods ASC finished 2016 strong with a total of
eight agility trials including the last minute addition of what we
aptly named the “Bare Bones” trial in June of 2016. We were
fortunate that Sue Graham quickly stepped up to judge for our
last-minute trial, along with our agility committee who stepped up
and took on the extra trial and work flawlessly.
Looking at 2017, we again have these same eight trials on our
schedule, seven held indoors in the Twin Cities Metro area, and
one in the great outdoors in the beautiful yet unpredictable weather
city of Duluth. Fingers crossed for no snow in June!
Affiliate News
We recently held our April “We Are The Cure” Trial with all
proceeds from the trial, along with raffle earnings, cash donations
and online donations, going to NCCF. Our raffle included over
160 items donated by our fantastic agility community. After the
final tally, NWASC was able to donate $13,000!! THANK YOU,
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, to all of those who came to support
this trial. Always a favorite for this club.
By the time this report goes to print, NWASC will have held
our first Stock/Farm/Ranch Trials Memorial weekend at Elysian
Farm in Pine City, MN.
NWASC is also planning to host our first Obedience/Rally
trials late July.
We are also hosting two education events this year. The first
event is an agility distance seminar in June. This event will focus
on distance skills for all levels. The second event is a herding
instinct day in July. This event introduces teams to their dog’s
natural stock instinct and promises to be a fun and educational
day.
ROCK RIVER VALLEY ASC
Jerry Aufox, Affiliate Representative, jaufox@mac.com
We continue to expand our events. Our Agility program
continues to grow. Our agility trials are held at Canine Sports Zone
in Middleton, Wisconsin. At our last trial we were just a few runs
shy of filling the trial. Our entries were made up of about half
Aussies and half other breeds. ASCA Agility is becoming very
popular and we are hoping that the trend continues to grow. In 2017
we will offer three (3) weekends of trials. Come and join us at our
Agility Trial in August. We have also held an Conformation,
Obedience & Rally trial in March and will be holding another
Conformation event in July in Rio, WI
We will again hold our annual Fall Classic Stockdog Trial on
September 22 nd & 23 rd with four trials of Cattle, Sheep and Ducks.
The trials will be held at Magic Legacy’s Dead Oak Farm in Genoa
City, Wisconsin. We hope that you can attend and participate in
this event. This annual event may possibly grow in the future to
three (3) day event. Also, it is hoped that sometime in the future,
an additional Stockdog trial will be added in the summer.
Rock River Valley ASC began a merit awards program four
years ago. Participation in the program has grown, and we
congratulate the teams that took the top awards for the 2015-2016
competitive year:
