Here in Ohio, Buckeye ASC is smack down in the middle of
another busy year. Buckeye ASC will hold 6 agility trials this year
again as they did last year. Last year in June, Buckeye ASC hosted a
fun day/educational day were participants tried there hand at herding
techniques and watched demonstrations of grooming specifically for
Aussies. Also last year in June BASC hosted a tracking seminar with
tracking certifications offered. Buckeye ASC will hold there Stock
HOOSIER WORKING ASC
Karin Graeff, Affiliate Representative, karin.a.graeff@thewavz.com
This past year has been a year of changes for the Hoosier
Working Australian Shepherd Club. We are now back to where we
began, pretty much with the same group of “founding mothers”
who started the club almost 20 years ago. We were a group of
Aussie enthusiasts, green and new to the breed and herding,
but interested in learning all about working with stock dogs. We
all started the journey with one or two Aussies, and now most of
our members own sheep, chickens, and ducks on properties tiny to
large and everything in between, with the second- or thirdgenerations
of Aussies. Some of us own other breeds as well, but
all are passionate about stock work.
Ferreh Hiatt’s 40-acre Salty Dog Ranch in Mooreland, Indiana
is the location for our stock dog trials that we usually hold in April
and September. We are hoping to see a full trial this September 9
– 10, 2017 – so please visit our website and get your information
to sign up: www.hwasc.org/Events.html. You will enjoy the
beautiful setting of the ranch, the honest stock, our warm Indiana
hospitality, and great trial prizes!
Our members compete in many venues and the following have
received club recognition through year-end merit prizes:
• Theresa Bingham’s Grant: KG Vest’s Wish Granted OTDds
HTADs,ge HSAd CGC RN. “Grant” earned four titles this past
year, including a High Combined Non WTCH buckle, and was
#3 started duck dog in ASCA. Grant also discovered the joy
of Barn-Hunt and has received his RATN title!
• Karin Graeff with “Maeve,” ARPH’s Unbreakable Intoxicating
Spirit CGC RN RATO STDsd HRDI-s HSAs (miniature
American) and “Raven,” ARPH’s Black Knight of Love CGCA
RATS STDsd HRDI-s HSAsd CAD (Aussie) enjoyed
introducing her dogs to lure-coursing and dock-diving in
addition to continuing training and competition in herding with
ASCA, AKC and AHBA as well as sniffing out rats in Barn
Hunt.
• Lynne Gish’s Ozzie earned the titles of Therapy Dog Advanced
and also, AKC Community Canine Advanced. He is now
known as Aim High’s Wingman THDA CGCA, and he and
Lynne perform valuable community service by visiting
hospitals, schools, and nursing homes.
• Ferreh Hiatt’s Pearl –Waylon’s Pearl Snaps STDcds – earned
all of her started titles at the Salty Dog Classic, as well as the
Most Promising Started buckle and HIT cattle in three out of
four trials. Her performance that weekend has her sitting as
the #1 started cattle dog in ASCA currently.
We wish everyone and their Aussies a successful training and
trialing season! Have fun with your team partner and keep inspiring
each other!
MICHIANA ASA
Janine Kester, Affiliate Representative, marehaven@netzero.net
Greetings from Michiana! Our club, which is still fairly new,
holds shows and trials in the Michiana area, which comprises
Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan. We are a small, but busy
club that works hard to promote dogs that do it all! We have
members who train and participate in all venues. We held 15
conformation shows, 14 all-breed obedience trials and 14 all-breed
rally trials this past year over three, three-day weekends and a oneday
all-breed performance trial.
