Your favourite autumn activity is:
Anything involving R&R with my family.
Do you have a back-to-school
tradition?
Not really. Does difficult mornings count
as tradition? ;)
What was your favourite subject in elementary
school?
Art for life!
What do you hope YOUR KIDS learn this year? I
have two boys, 5 and 6 years old. I would
love for them to learn patience.
What is your fondest Fall memory?
Each of my boys first days of school and
the night before. It’s fun thinking back
on us making the little sign to hold up
outside of school, for a photo.

Your favourite autumn activity is:
Apple picking! There’s nothing more
wonderful than wandering through a
beautiful apple farm and sampling to
your heart’s desire. It always brings the
family closer!
Do you have a back-to-school
tradition?
My younger sister and I bonded over
packing the perfect first-day-of-school
lunch together. A lot of thought was put
into buying the coolest snacks (remember
Bear Paws and pudding cups?!),
preparing a picturesque sandwich and
filling up a brand new lunch box.
What was your favourite subject in elementary
school?
Math has always been my forte - I love
how black and white it is! Studying more
always equated to a higher mark, which
is not always the case with the arts.
What do you hope to learn this year?
I would love to get back into dance by
taking ballroom lessons. I find dance the
perfect stress reliever for when things
get busy. So many classes begin in
September, it’s hard to decide which one
to enroll in!
What is your fondest Fall memory?
My very first Halloween! I moved to Canada
when I was nine, and the concept
of dressing up for free candy blew my
mind. The best part was getting home
with my friends and making trade deals
for the candy I REALLY wanted - Aero
chocolates!

(pg.36)
Your favourite autumn activity is:
There are so many! Fall is by FAR my
favorite season… my favorite fall activity
is getting out of the city with my family
doing pretty much anything- pumpkin
patches, apple orchards, hiking. Even
strolling through Central Park and bundling
up for a picnic.
Do you have a back-to-school
tradition?
I LOVE back to school shopping! The
girls get so excited picking out their new
backpacks and lunch boxes- my current
favorites are Parkland, Vans and Hershel.
There are some awesome designer collabs
out there now.
What was your favourite subject in elementary
school? I absolutely loved school when I
was little- I used to get so nervous and
excited I would throw up on the bus the
first day! I loved every subject- I was that
kid in class that would remind the teacher
if they forgot to assign our homework...
What do you hope YOUR KIDS learn this year?
I hope my kids continue to learn more
about what excites and motivates them to
learn- whatever the subject may be there
is always something there that can inspire
you and help you grow.
What is your fondest Fall memory?
I grew up in a small town in Ohio and
every fall we would have our town festival
called the ‘Grape Jamboree’ when the
concord grapes were in season… as a
kid it was SUPER exciting! The art show,
grape stomping, the games/rides, the parade,
the crowning of Miss Grapette and
all the amazing food- grape pie, grape
milkshakes (the ‘Purple Cow’), grape jelly.
By far the highlight of the fall in our town!

editor’s note
Every year, about halfway through September, I
come to the realization that the season is over
and not a single item on my summer to-do list
was completed. Do you know the list I’m talking
about? It’s a tally of all the super fun summer
activities you want to do. Mine is usually a compellation
of legitimate events (like family gathering)
and well, lets face it, completely unrealistic
dream scenarios (yeah, I know I’m not going to
spend two weeks in the Italian countryside…).
Keeping lists can be so helpful. I work more
productively when I have a list and feel like I’ve
accomplished so much during a workday when
I can check all the items off by 4PM. But a list
can also seem to bring out the pessimist in me;
it brings attention to all the things I’ve haven’t
done, reminding me of the days we didn’t
spend at the beach or go on a wine tour (yup,
still dreaming over here).
What is on your to-do list this
fall? Tag @posterchildmag in
your Instagram pictures or
comments!
Can’t wait to hear from you!
As you settle into the autumn season, with big
long lists of daily to-dos, remember that the
most important items on your list are the easiest
to check off: hug your kids and say, “I Love
You”, wave to the bus, pour yourself a big cup
of coffee and get all your style inspiration by
flipping through this new issue. Check, Check,
Check and Check!

Photography by Smiley Kids Photo
Big city families on the go know how important it is that
their stroller stands up to all the unique challenges of
their urban lifestyle. Lightweight, simple to use, compact
and stylish: the checklist goes on. When looking for the
perfect all-around stroller there is just so much choice;
where do parents start?
We asked this very question when planning a recent trip
to New York. We already owned a chunky full-size stroller
and a stylish umbrella model but we needed the perfect
compact option to make exploring the big city a breeze.
_____________________
Enter the award-winning phil&teds Smart
stroller. For under $300USD city parents
will love that the Smart stroller truly lives
up to its name while offering so much
more than comparable models like the
Baby Jogger City Mini or Britax B Agile.
_____________________
Trekking the streets of NYC with an 11-month old baby
it was important that we had a stroller that could accommodate
napping on the go. Created with a true flat
laying bed, the Smart stroller is ideal for newborns and
napping toddlers. In the hot summer sun, it was also key
that our stroller had an extra large canopy. We were surprised
by the Smart stroller’s extendable sun hood that
provides extremely large coverage and protection from
harmful UV rays; simply unzip and extend to block out
the sun or create lots of privacy for sleeping.
Extra features like the stroller’s handbrake and adjustable
handle add to the overall ease of use, while the extended
flip-out leg rest and supersized seat create extra
comfort for kids to kick back and relax.
It’s one thing for a stroller to tick off all the items on your
must-have list, but how well does it really stand up under
pressure? We took to the streets of New York to put the
phil&teds Smart stroller to the test.
DUMBO is one of our favourite neighbourhoods to visit
while in New York. It is home to some pretty great coffee
spots and features a gorgeous view of Manhattan that
never gets old, however, arriving by public transit isn’t
always easy with a stroller. Travelling on the subway with
the phil&teds Smart stroller was surprisingly stress-free!
With a simple one-foot slide, this stroller easily collapses
and the child restraint bar becomes an easy to manage
carrying handle, leaving a free arm to hold a baby or
reach for your child’s hand. The small footprint of the
Smart stroller was also much appreciated by fellow commuters.
_____________________
After a busy weekend exploring
Manhattan our hands were empty and
our Smart stroller’s basket was full!
_____________________
It may not look like much, but we found this basket to be
easy to access and offered enough storage space for a
diaper bag, toys, and shopping bags.
If you are in the market for a super stylish compact
stroller, we highly recommend you check out the
phil&teds Smart Stroller available at Target!

Q&A
Meet Maisonette
22
Charming tree-lined Newtown Lane of East Hampton
is the shopping destination of every seaside vacationer.
Amidst the collection of designer shops,
art galleries and ice cream parlors stands Theory,
the perfect setting for the MAISONETTE MARKET.
Maisonette is the premier online baby and children’s
fashion and lifestyle destination co-founded
just earlier this year, by Vogue Magazine alums and
entrepreneurs, Sylvana Durret and Luisana Mendoza
de Roccia.
Excited to bring the online world of Maisonette to
life, the ladies hosted their first-ever pop-up shop
just last month in preparation for the back-to-school
season dubbed MAISONETTE MARKET.
We were excited to have had the opportunity to
chat with Syl and Lu, after a hectic week of translating
Maisonette’s exceptional level of service,
shopping ease and impeccable style into a brick
and motor boutique in East Hampton, about their
unique journey and successful new online empire.
Tell us a bit about yourself and what prompted
your interest in exploring the children’s fashion
market.
Syl: We met while working at Vogue. We were both
Anna Wintour’s assistants right out of college. Of
course being at Vogue, we had a love for fashion,
editorial, and storytelling and were able to learn
from the best in the business.
Lu: Our time at Vogue was invaluable. It was the
perfect training ground to learn how to work hard
and be creative. Not to mention the access and
exposure to some of the world’s most beautiful
things and experiences, which ultimately inspired
us to start Maisonette.com. We are both mothers
to three children each, so while we never worked in
childrenswear at Vogue or anywhere else, we had a
personal interest in the space.
How and why did you start Maisonette?
Syl: Luisana and I were completely frustrated by
the process of shopping for children. As working
moms, we had gotten very used to being able to
order whatever we needed for ourselves on one aggregated
online destination - whether it be clothing
or groceries! The same was not true for the children’s
market. We found we’d be up late at night
with 20 different browser windows open, one for
shoes, one for special occasion dresses, another for
basics (you get the point) and hours later, tired and
weary, we would abandon cart altogether.
Lu: The children’s market, until now, has been in-
credibly fragmented and there are endless amounts of
beautiful product out there- you just can’t find them!
We created Maisonette.com to solve this problem, and
to offer high-quality, beautiful childrenswear and home
goods at a variety of price points, all with the ease that
comes with shopping on one, curated online destination.
How do you and your creative team curate the
brands you offer on Maisonette?
Syl: In the beginning, it started off with all the brands
that Luisana and our team have loved and shopped
around the world since having kids. Since then, it’s
grown into a more systematic process where we identify
unique brands that provide a truly unique product or
service for our customers, ultimately curating the ideal
children’s wardrobe or nursery.
Lu: We also now have quite a long waiting list of brands
we would like to onboard, but we are doing this carefully
and growing with scale so we can both serve our
customers and our vendors. The response has been incredible;
we get contacted every day by brands looking
to sell on our site or even by customers who have found
brands they love and want to share with us. Being a
mother is sometimes like being in the most lovely cult;
the minute you find something that works, you want to
indoctrinate everyone into it too, and make their lives
easier!
Q&A
What makes your
online marketplace
stand out
in the industry?
Lu: It is very much
a unique model and
one that serves our
customers and vendors
equally. We are able to
provide small, independent boutiques
and brands a tech platform to connect with both existing
and potential customers; many of whom would
never have learned about their brand unless it was for
someone like us. We are proud to aggregate the best
brands and content out there and deliver it to our customers
in this way.
Syl: The drop ship model is also ideal in that we have
very little inventory risk and can bring on new brands
and stores faster, and also experiment with different
types of products. It’s a nice way to sometimes test
customer reaction, and being a tech company, we can
quickly adapt to bring the customer more of what they
want and less of what doesn’t work for them.
What is the process involved in developing your
stories? Where does your editorial inspiration come
from?
Syl: As former editors, storytelling is such an
important part of our process; it is ingrained
in who we are. We want Maisonette to not
only be a resourceful e-commerce shop, but
also a hub for inspiration for all things baby
& kids, where both new and existing moms
can visit and get tips, ideas and tricks from
those who have been doing this for several
years now.
moms, dads, cousins, aunts- so many people interact
with kids on a day to day basis, and so creating editorials
that speaks to all of them, not just parents, is exciting
for us and engaging for them.
What is your company’s mission statement or goal?
Syl: Maisonette.com’s mission is to deliver quality and
unique baby & children’s clothing, accessories and
home goods through a curated network of brands &
boutiques worldwide, coupled alongside custom content
and editorial which educates as well as inspires.
What is your favourite upcoming trend for kids this
fall?
Syl: We are seeing a lot of animal prints out there!
Which, of course, we LOVE. And the kids do too- so it’s
an added plus.
What is the perfect outfit for the fall season?
Lu: Being a mom of three girls, I’m always about an easy
dress with tights and sneakers to make it a bit more fun
and less formal.
Syl: For Henry, it’s a corduroy, button down shirt with
tee underneath (layers!) and stan smith sneaker- cool
and easy.
Discover Maisonette online: www.maisonette.com
Lu: We started off profiling some of our good
friends and it’s grown from there; we are so
lucky that we now have people contacting
us and asking to be featured. We love this-

Out with the old, in with
THE NEW
and Spotlight
by Nastasia Delmedico
The children’s fashion industry
is often inspired and led by
distinctive children’s prints,
colours, and designs that
compartmentalize childrenswear from
an adult wardrobe—but THE NEW is all
about breaking the molds. Based out of
Denmark, THE NEW is a children’s fashion
brand with a grown-up feel founded
by Chris Peterson, Louise Paprika Clemmensen,
and Camilla Sejersen.
Four times a year THE NEW creates
collections that are on-par with adult
fashion trends, mixed with the perfect
amount of charisma and playfulness that
defines a children’s brand.
“I design the collection so that you can
mix and match across the different designs.
And you can easily style it up and
down just with a few, small changes,”
says Clemmensen, the company’s Head
of Design. “From the same collection,
you can actually
create outfits
for the bold and
brave girl or boy
as well as for the
more classical
type. I take deep
pride in giving
children a relevant
and individual
choice from the
grown-up’s fashion
world,” adds
Clemmensen.
and spotlight
As for this year’s fall trends, THE NEW’s latest collection
embodies them all—dark blue hues, pops
of pink, flannels, pleaded skirts, and long, polished
jackets. Amid floral prints and stripes, the
collection also lends itself to a minimalist wardrobe,
offering sophisticated shapes and designs
that stay true to their grown-up inspiration.
Discover the THE NEW, designed for boys and
girls ages 3-14, at www.thenew.dk.
