Favourite place you’ve traveled in the last 5
years? The Philippines!
Spring flowers or Spring Showers?
I am definitely a Spring Flowers person
(even with the crazy allergies I get).
What are your 5 spring essentials?
1. A light scarf, to throw on since the
spring weather in Toronto is unpredictable.
2. My Levi’s denim jacket, a classic staple.
3. An umbrella (gotta be practical).
4. My fave springtime perfume, Marc
Jacobs Daisy.
5. A fresh new cut! There’s something
symbolic about getting a haircut in the
spring. It’s kind of like “spring cleaning”
for my beauty routine.
5 new things you’d like to try this year?
1. A new type of cuisine! I am not usually
the most adventurous when it comes to
food, but I am certainly curious to try
something new. A client had recommended
Afghan or Ethiopian!
2. Kickboxing. I’d like to introduce more
physical activity into my life. Lots of my
friends are really into kickboxing, and it
looks like such a fun and practical sport.
3. I would really love to do some creative
work outside of Toronto, maybe even
Canada. I went to LA last year and loved
it, so it’s definitely a place I would like to
share my work.
4. A new art medium. Most recently, I’ve
been teaching myself how to paint nails
and I might just explore into nail art this
year!
5. I’d like to try a new lip colour! A classic
red lip has been my staple, but it might
be cool to try a funky colour like brown
or even blue. Who knows, it might be my
next classic colour!
Spring flowers or Spring Showers?
Although I do enjoy a big spring
thunderstorm, I’m a bigger fan of spring
flowers!
What are your 5 spring essentials?
1. A black leather jacket
2. White sneakers
3. My Passport
4. A chic, city-ready stroller
5. Iced coffee
5 new things you’d like to try this year?
1. I need to be better at capturing everyday
moments with my family. This year,
I’d like to learn to use my camera better
and keep it at close reach to take photos
of our special memories.
2. I’d like to try as much as possible to
limit the amount of meat I’m eating this
year. I definitely don’t intend to become
a vegetarian, but I want to be more
conscious of the types of meat we
do eat and more experimental in the
kitchen!
3. Family travel. Now that our daughter
is 18-months, I feel more comfortable
with the idea of traveling as a family
and I’m excited to discover kid-friendly
activities for us to enjoy together!
4. A new hair colour. I’ve been rocking
the same shades for almost 3 years. I
think it may be time for a change...
5. Indian food!
Spring Flowers
What are your 5 spring essentials?
I love spring because I can bring out all
the light hues including my favourite
shade of purple, lilac!
1. Sunglasses
2. Trench coat
3. Umbrella
4. A bright new lip shade
5. A good pair of wedges
5 new things you’d like to try this year?
1. Be more social and in the moment!
2. Channel my creative side. I’d like to
take up a new hobby or put time aside
once a week to get back into creative
writing.
3. Get in touch with spiritual side, starting
with yoga with kitties.
4. As a picky eater, I want to try an
expand and broaden my horizons when it
comes to the food I eat.
5. I’d like to become more budget savvy!
I’d like to be able to save more money
cultures!
the
editor’s note
Late in 2012, I returned from my first trip to New
York City. Filled with inspiration, having just attended
PetiteParade Kids Fashion Week, and fueled by the
kind of motivation and starry-eyed optimism that only
comes from walking the streets of NYC, I made the
decision to start the New Year by launching a simple
kids fashion blog. I wanted to create something that
would provide me with a much-needed creative outlet
and I just hoped that people would be inspired by
the brands I wrote about and the cute outfits I styled.
Little did I know how well it would be received!
Originally named Poster Child Style, I launched the
blog in the spring of 2013 and was soon joined by a
few ladies who quickly became our most loyal supporters,
biggest cheerleaders and amazing friends.
In the spring of 2015, we launched our first issue as
Poster Child Magazine, back in New York City, after
producing two smaller style guide publications the
previous year.
Can’t wait to hear from you!
This spring we’re celebrating 5 years of Poster Child,
and 3 years as a print publication. On one hand, it
feels like we’ve been producing Poster Child Magazine
for a lifetime, on the other it feels like we are just
getting started! We are so honored and humbled to
be supported by the best group of fans, contributors,
sponsors and mentors who continue to motivate us
everyday and keep us dedicated to inspiring a stylish
childhood through our publication, year after year.
Thank you for your support of Poster Child Magazine.
We can’t wait to share this new issue with you!
Designer Q&A
EFVVA
Interview
Kidswear with a painter’s touch
Photography by Erica Allen
Styling by Lizzy Williams
Hair & Makeup by Amanda Richer
Set by Abnormals Anonymous
by Nastasia Delmedico
EFVVA is a polish children’s brand
with a talented painter behind its
designs— meet Ewa Wrobel-Hultqvist,
the designer of EFVVA and graduate
in painting from the Academy of
Fine Arts in Kraków, who resides in Poland
with her husband and children.
What was founded in 2011 out of a passion
for design, painting, and children’s
aesthetic, has grown into several collections
of high-quality childrenswear that
includes footwear, with genuine artistry
at the forefront.
Whether Ewa is paying homage to art
history with designs influenced from notable
artists of the past or leading the
future of fashion using environmental
practices to create her pieces, EFVVA is
undeniably original, like something out
of a gallery, and perfect for encouraging
youthful expression through clothing.
We had the pleasure of interviewing the
artist behind the brand for this issue’s
Designer Q&A, where we had the opportunity
to talk about her latest SS18
collection and exciting upcoming projects.
What inspired the name of your label?
The name EFVVA stands for my name
Ewa, but with Scandinavian sound because
I love Sweden; I used to live there
and my husband and sons have Swedish
nationality. The letter “F” stands for
fashion.
18

Designer Q&A
What made you want to design
for children? I grew up in an artistic
family where design and art intertwined
with each other each day,
so to follow this path as an adult
was natural for me. In fact, I have always
wanted to be a painter, which
I have become, but I also love to be
a part of children’s fashion because
I have my own kids and I love the
aesthetic of kids. Plus, the entire
design process is fun!
What is your brand’s mission
statement or goal? We use the
highest quality of natural materials
and our clothes and shoes are
handmade in Poland, personally
designed and finished by me. We
put a lot of heart into our work, fine
tuning the product so that it is unique to wear for
its owner. All products are individually made for
our little individualists who are our greatest treasure.
Therefore, it is important to protect their future
through care of the environment. EFVVA aims
to create clothes with respect to the environment
and human rights.
What are the motivations or inspirations behind
the designs? I get most of my inspiration
from art and various cultures. Every collection is
inspired by a different artist. I have many ideas for
collections flying around in my head. The most
difficulty is choosing which concept to go with
and to match it with contemporary fashion trends.
Is there a style decade you are inspired by?
I love the swinging ‘60s and Pop Art, but also Marie
Antoinette’s style.
What makes your label stand out in the industry?
I want to create collections that are special,
unique, and individually made for each child;
therefore, I paint the designs myself. My aim is to
bring art close to children—encourage them for
this passion and creative knowledge!
How does your design philosophy change
when creating for boys vs girls?
I am trying to design mostly unisex collections but
I cannot imagine girls fashion without tulle. So, in
EFVVA’s collection for girls, you will always find a
lot of tulle.
What do you have coming up that you are
really excited about?
I am so excited about working on a spectacular
haute couture line from recycled items for the
SS19 collection. I am using some movies inspirations
with artsy couture accents and not forgetting
about lots of fun—which must be in children’s
fashion!
What are your favourite items from the current
collection?
EFVVA’s SS18 “BIOPHILIA” collection is inspired
by old botanical Albrecht Dürer’s illustrations and
biophilia, the worldwide term inspiring architecture,
lifestyles, and fashion. It’s about emotional
relationships between people and nature and other
living organisms. My favourite items from this
collection include the butterfly dress and bee tulle
skirt—love them both!
We invite you to learn more and discover the
new collection by EFVVA by visiting them
for Lauren’s cover shoot with Poster Child
Magazine. The 13-year-old Canadian-born
influencer filled the room with excitement as
she hopped into the hair and makeup chair
for a quick glam session before it was time for
wardrobe. Styled with relaxed waves and minimal
makeup, Lauren slipped into the first outfit
of what would be an all-day shoot, wearing
colourful items and cool patterns, while channeling
her personal style with all things denim.
As a young teenager, Lauren has accumulated
an impressive social footprint. Whether she’s
tweeting to her 300K plus following on Twitter,
sharing photographs with 3.4 million fans on
Instagram, or making YouTube videos with her
friends and older brother Johnny, her strong
social influence has allowed her to travel the
world and build a career, using her platforms,
that’s just getting started.
We had the opportunity to chat with our cover
star, touching on fashion, YouTube, and everyday
life in this issue’s cover story Q&A.
For our readers who are unfamiliar with the
Orlando family, tell us a little bit about yourself,
your family, and your social media career.
I started my YouTube channel about four years ago,
when I was nine. My brother was the first person in
our family to post on YouTube and I followed after
that, making vlogs and challenge videos. We grew
our social media following by posting on other platforms
like Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and musical.ly
and have been lucky enough to make a career
out of it.
What does an average day in your shoes look
like? I still go to a normal school, so when I’m in
Toronto I’m at school all day during the week—not
too exciting! When I get home from school, I usually
try to get some social media posts up and do my
homework, of course.
Describe your style. What are some of your goto
pieces? I’d describe my style as comfortable but
cute. When I am at home, I live in t-shirts, leggings,
and hoodies. Ripped boyfriend jeans are one of my
go-to pieces because I love that they’re so stylish
but still something you can wear all day without being
uncomfortable.
If you had to wear apparel from just one specific
brand for the rest of your life, which brand
would you choose? Probably Topshop. I like that
they offer affordable pieces but still keep up with
current trends. They also have an amazing selection
of jeans that I think fit really well.
What’s one of the most exciting things you have
accomplished thus far? One of the most exciting
things I accomplished was hitting 1 million subscribers
on YouTube. I started my channel for fun, probably
because I was bored, and definitely did not
expect anything to come out of it. It’s crazy to think
that millions of people watch my videos, I can’t even
believe that.
Tell us about your YouTube channel! What do
you enjoy the most about sharing videos, and
where do you find inspiration for creating content?
I love YouTube because I feel like I can develop
a better connection with the people who watch
my videos, in comparison to other platforms like
Instagram or musical.y. It’s also a space for me to
be creative and to spend time creating content. I
get my video inspiration from watching other You-
Tubers. Some of my favourites are Alisha Marie and
LaurDIY.
As an avid traveller, what are some of your favourite
places to visit? We toured in Europe this
past December and got to visit so many amazing
countries. One of my favourite cities in the world is
definitely Barcelona. It’s so beautiful and the people
that we met there were all so welcoming and
friendly.
Spring has sprung! What are some Spring fashion
trends that you’re living for? I love furry
slides and I am so excited that the weather is getting
warmer so that I can bring them out again! I
can’t wait to see what other new trends are “in” this
Spring.
What are you looking forward to for the rest of
the year? In 2018, I’m collaborating with the clothing
brand Mudd as the face of Mudd Girls. I’ll be
working alongside some other awesome YouTubers
for that collaboration which I’m so excited about.
I’m also looking forward to more travelling, touring,
and meeting new people this year.
