Day 1
Arrive in Queenstown
Lake Wakatipu Oaks Club Resort is situated on the shores of the
lake with astounding views of both the lake and The Remarkables
mountain range. Lake Wanaka occupies a single, glacier-carved
trench and is bordered on all sides by tall m ountains.Because of its
unusual shape, Lake Wakatipu has a ‘tide’ or “standing wave”, which
causes the water to rise and fall about 10 centimeters every 25
minutes or so. Maori legend links this phenomenon to the
heartbeat of a huge monster named Matau, who is said to be
slumbering at the bottom of the lake.
The units at Oaks Club Resort are self-contained facilities for
students to make their own breakfast in the mornings.
Kia ora – Welcome to New Zealand. Students
will be met at Queenstown Airport by their guide
and transferred to their accommodation.
After settling in students are off to spend time at the local Kiwi
House with a private viewing of the shy native bird of New Zealand.
Here they will learn about the community support and conservation
involved in keeping the Kiwi safe from being extinct. Time will
also be spent coming face-to-face with other residents of the Kiwi
House such as the Tuatara (a native lizard type reptile) and other
native birds. The evening will be spent at the top of the Skyline
Gondola, taking in the sights of Queenstown over sunset and
enjoying a buffet dinner.
