asaplaceforbusiness–thisis
the purpose of the Gelsenkirchen
Business Initiative. Since it was
founded in 2005, the initiative has
establisheditselfasahighly-sought
originator and innovator for the city. The
association of some 180 entrepreneurial personalities,
meeting in the Friedrich Grillo Industries
Club,seekstoutilisethecity’sstrengthswithout
ignoring its weaknesses. A pinch of self-deprecating
humour and a touch of “nudge, nudge” here
and there are just as much part of it as a healthy
measure of pride and local patriotism – for example
whenhighlightingtherelationshipbetweenthe
cityand“its”footballclubFCSchalker04duringa
breathtakinggalaevening.Inadditiontothe
regularartexhibitionsandgalaevents,other
events, sometimes organised in cooperation with
partners,helptoboosttheself-confidenceand
image of Gelsenkirchen, among them “Campus
meets Business” or “Gelsenkirchen – Picnicking
with Perspectives“. Major corporations such as BP,
E.ONandGELSENWASSERparticipateinthebusiness
initiative as well as small and medium-sized industrial
and service companies or the traditionally firm
partners such as the Sparkasse, ELE and the
employers’ associations of Emscher-Lippe. In all of
its activities, this non-profit association, run on a
volunteerbasis,placesgreatimportanceon
openness, and assistance is always welcome.
