Today, there is no more carriages, and only running cars on the streets.
Walking however, is still a much more enjoyable way to explore the town. At
every corner there were signages for tourists to follow, but somehow I was still
lost. Some stone roads still remain to this day, while some has been paved. It
is easy for tourists to lose their way in this ancient town and not really know
which part of history they are stepping on.
Even with the golden days are now gone, along with the lavish lifestyle of
aristocats. Arles today is a calm and serene town, and much like what you can
see in Van Gogh's paintings of Arles - a perfectly ideal place for people who
want to hide away from the world.
I am running out of things to describe Arles, as words can not justify the
beauty of this place. The river still maintains its constant flow. Stones on
the ancient walls continue to stand the test of time. Graceful cats wander
about the place. This is a town where you must come to see and feel for
yourself why it is so much loved.
