Gangwon is now a familiar name to many<br />
Vietnamese soccer fans since Luong Xuan Truong,<br />
a talented Vietnamese soccer player, joined the<br />
Gangwon FC. Located in the northeast of South<br />
Korea, Gangwon besides its capital, Chuncheon,<br />
has 7 other cities: Wonju, Pyeongchang, Sokcho,<br />
Taebaek, Samcheok, Donghae and Gangneung.<br />
During my most recent trip with the KTO (Korea<br />
Tourism Organization), I had a chance to visit<br />
three cities Peyongchang, Gangneung and Sokcho.<br />
I was blown away by its breathtaking scenery, the<br />
friendliness of people, and their authentic cuisine.<br />

& WINTER OLYMPICS 2018<br />
Considered the coldest area in Korea in winter,<br />
which can sometimes drop to -40 degree Celsius,<br />
Peyongchang is famous for its amazing ski<br />
resorts and an ideal destination for those who love<br />
adventure and winter sports. With over 70% of<br />
mountainous area elevated at 700m above the sea,<br />
this third largest city of Korea has been chosen to<br />
host the Winter Olympics 2018. It will be the first<br />
time the Winter Olympics is held in a suburban<br />
location in Asia.<br />

Gangwon, formed in 1395, was one of the Eight Provinces of Korea during the Joseon Dynasty. In 1945, after many events<br />
that dived Korea into US American and Soviet zones of occupation in the south and north respectively, Gangwon was finally<br />
separated into Gangwon-do (South Korea) and Kangwon-do (North Korea)<br />
