Welcome 

Rain, Rain and more wonderful rain! We are so immensely 

thankful for the 100mm+ rain we have received in the month 

of March alone. 

Lot of new faces and happenings at CEC – we aim to keep 

everyone informed via our newsletter. 

If you have any interesting stories, snippets or anything else 

to share with regards to your riding experience or horse at 

CEC – Please email me at CountrysideEC@gmail.com so 

we can add it to our newsletter. 

Please note that our monthly newsletter is also available 

to read by means of a link on our whattsapp group for the 

stables. If you have not been added yet – please contact

We are welcoming a new rider - Sené Fernandez as well as 

De Jaineiro AKA ‘River’ (Owned by the Robyn, Alet and 

Herman van Nieuwenhuysen) and the lovely Pierrot who is 

for sale (Tack included!). 

We always have a variety of horses and ponies for sale and

Jumping 

Shows and Other 

Events 

Our riders have been competing at 

SANESA as well as Graded Show jumping 

and Dressage shows: 

• Michaela Smith and Eddie have been 

proving themselves worthy in their 70 

cm show jumping classes, finishing 3rd 

in one of their classes as SANESA Q2. 

• Hayley Dady and Summer Beauty did 

a Graded SJ show for the first time 

at Burlington Stables venue and were 

placed 9th and 10th in the different 

classes 

The following riders competed at A graded 

Dressage show hosted at Roselane Stables: 

• Robyn van Nieuwenhuysen (Riding 

Prins – Pony Rider Novice) 2 x 1st 

places; 

• Jenna-Lee dos Santos (Riding 

Brandenburg Leandra -Junior Prelim) 2 

x 1st places as well as 

• Mieke de Beer (Riding Splash of Class 

– Junior Novice) 1 x 1st and 1 x 2nd 

place. 

We are very proud of you all! Hard work 

reaps rewards. We will post all results 

we receive from riders, so please keep us 

updated! 

Our next show date at CEC is 21 April 

2018. Please diarize it as we are planning 

to have a Super Duper show with LOADS 

of sponsored prizes for all the riders! Our 

Entry form can be downloaded by clicking

Horse-pital 

• Cheval was diagnosed with 

an Ethmoid Hematoma 

after being submitted 

to Onderstepoort 

Equine Hospital for 

further inspection on 

his continuous nasal 

Discharge. Surgery was 

performed to remove the 

Ethmoid Hematoma and 

Cheval is still in recovery 

and should be coming 

home within the next few 

days. LUCKILY Cheval 

is insured at Equipage 

insurance brokers and they 

are paying for said surgery 

and hospitalization. (Yet 

another reason to have 

your horse insured as 

horses can have very 

strange and rare things 

wrong with them!) 

• De Jaineiro AKA ‘River’– 

the lovely new boy owned 

by the Van Nieuwenhuysen 

Family has been gelded 

on Monday19 March 

2018. Shortly after his 

arrival (Travelling from 

Kimberly by truck, River 

suffered from a mild case 

of impaction colic – most 

probably due to the fact that 

he did not drink enough 

water during the trip – 

our Trusted Veterinarian 

Dr. Heinrich Davies 

came to treat him with 

pain medication as well 

as a good tubing of 20L 

water after which River 

was very comfortable and 

proceeded to pass lovely 

heaps of droppings. 

• Rusalka had a broken 

fragment of tooth removed 

after x-rays showed a 

piece of broken tooth 

still intact. We are very 

thankful that we have 

such a thorough Equine 

Dentist. André Thirion 

– you are a lifesaver! 

Previously Rusalka was 

very uncomfortable with 

the bit when being ridden, 

but since you sorted out the 

‘root’ of the problem there 

has been a remarkable 

improvement. 

• Bella had a front tooth 

removed which was loose. 

• Splash was treated for his 

itchy skin with Cortizone 

by Veterinarian Dr. Tanya 

Hornshcuh. 

• VERY IMPORTANT 

NOTICE TO ALL HORSE 

OWNERS: A Veterinarian 

informed us that there is 

a vaccine which is 99% 

effective against West 

Nile Virus (WNV) is 

available and that horses 

should be inoculated 

annually after having 

received their first WNV 

vaccine with a booster 

30 days after the first 

Vaccine was administered. 

ALTHOUGH this vaccine 

is NOT a ‘must have’ for 

show purposes (yet), the 

repercussions of a horse 

dying from West Nile 

Virus (IF THE HORSE 

IS INSURED) will 

result in the horse NOT 

BEING COVERED FOR 

MORTALITY LOSS due 

to the fact that the owners 

should have had the horse 

vaccinated and have the 

proof of batch number 

and Veterinary signature 

and stamp in the horses’ 

passport. Melindi has 

sent out an email to all 

our horse owners with 

more information and 

we will have our horses 

vaccinated during April 

and May 2018 against this 

disease. The link below 

gives more insight and 

information on this deadly 

disease. 

• 

• Chiropractor Kim Dyson 

attended to Oakville, Like 

a Lady, Madame, River, 

Splash, Rusalka, Donatello, 

Oakley, Joy, Belle Manon 

and Summer during March 

2018. 

• Saddlefitter Andy Taylor 

also fitted the saddles of 

Dude, Summer, Splash, 

Prins, Rusalka and Madame 

during his visit. 

• CLIENTS: PLEASE 

ENSURE you have the 

following items CLEARLY 

marked with your horse’s 

name in your horses’ box at 

their stable or paddock as we 

will not be able to properly 

treat minor wounds, tick 

infestations or mange without 

the following: Tick Grease, 

Iceman/deep ice/arnica 

ice, Wound aerosol (Purple 

spray), Wound ointment 

(dermavet/agrisulph), hoof 

and sole hardener, Stockholm 

tar, milking cream, shampoo 

treatment for mange (F10). 

• Horses who need to be treated 

for mange, ticks, minor 

wounds or hoof problems 

without the above items 

available in their horses’ box 

will be treated with CEC 

products and clients charged 

with R150 per treatment – 

please remember that the 

ONUS is on the owner of the 

horse to ensure we have the 

necessary items to look after 

your horses’ well-being.

Neighs Flash 

• General Upkeep of our 

thatch roof at the clubhouse 

will take place during the 

first week of April 2018. 

Please bear with us while 

the roof is being maintained 

as it makes quite a mess. 

• As soon as the rainy season 

is over we will tackle the 

road leading in from the 

main gate to the stable area 

to improve the going for 

our valued clients. 

• Friendly yellow bulbonella 

flowers are in bloom all 

around the stable yard! We 

are expanding our gardens 

and you will see much 

more of these flower beds 

being manifested around 

the stable yard. 

• New water points at key 

areas of the paddocks will 

be installed. 

• Our rental horsebox will be 

serviced during the month 

of April 2018. 

• With the second SANESA 

school show around the 

corner, please book your 

instructor WELL IN 

ADVANCE if you require 

instructor assistance at the 

show. The cost per rider 

for instructor assistance is 

R400 per day for a Pretoria 

show venue. If the venue is 

in JHB the cost per rider is 

R500 per day. Nicolene and 

Corinne are our resident 

instructor who will be 

accompanying students to 

shows. 

• We are continually fixing up 

broken paddock poles as we 

go, re-painting of paddocks 

with Carbolineum has been 

started, PLEASE Do not 

put your horse in a paddock 

if the gate is closed and 

the water bucket is turned 

upside-down as this means 

the paddock is still wet and 

the Carbolineum product 

burns the horses’ skin. 

• Please remember that there 

is ALWAYS a rider on 

horseback when entering 

the main gate which gives 

access to the premises of 

CEC. Please stick to the 

speed limit of 40 km/h and 

please be on the lookout 

for riders on horseback 

who might be riding 

around on the farm as well 

as our famous ‘bokkies’.

Note To Stabling 

& Riding Clients 

• We have CEC club shirts available in the office at R450 per shirt. 

If we do not have your size in stock, we will order it and have it 

readily available within 2 weeks. Please take note that CEC riders 

who partake at our CEC shows and other training shows are required 

to wear our CEC club shirts 

• Please CONFIRM with your relevant instructor if they will be 

available for riding lessons during the upcoming public holidays. 

For those that will miss riding lessons, please arrange your catch-up 

lessons with your instructor. 

• Please keep our stable yard clean! There are dustbins set up 

strategically at different areas of the stable yard for this purpose. 

Smokers, also please remember to throw away cigarette butts as we 

have some of our old ponies grazing around the stable yard area and 

don’t want them to consume these. 

• Melindi’s Students please take note: Melindi will not be available 

for riding lessons from 1 – 13 May 2018 as she will be attending 

Badminton Horse Trials in the UK as a spectator and will go on a 

course-walk experience with top eventer Lucinda Green for the cross 

country phase. She has already started catching up lessons in advance 

that will be missed. 

• NO rider is allowed to jump fences in the cross country area without an 

instructor present and the rider wearing a body protector. Remember 

guys that these jumps are SOLID, and should only be attempted 

under the watchful eye of one of our instructors. If you want to book 

a cross country jumping lesson, come chat to us at the office so we 

can book you in. 

• PLEASE TAKE NOTE: IF PAYMENT WITH REGARDS TO 

YOUR STABLING AND / OR RIDING LESSONS ARE NOT 

PAID BY THE 3RD DAY OF EACH NEW MONTH – a late 

payment penalty of R150 will take effect and be billed with your 

next invoice. 

• If you are unable to make your payment by the 3rd day of the new 

month after receiving your invoice, PLEASE contact Melindi @ 

084 760 8450 in order to arrange payment procedure BEFORE the 

3rd of each new month. 

• Please remember that NO RIDER is allowed on horseback at CEC 

WITHOUT wearing a RIDING HELMET! Please guys, this is for 

your own safety and most horse-related injuries are head injuries. 

Always better to be safe than sorry. 

• Riders having Lessons at Countryside Equestrian Centre – Please 

remember that we work on a 24 hour notice period for Cancellation 

of Lessons. It has happened a few times where riders don’t show up 

for their scheduled riding lesson where the horse / pony has been 

saddled up and is ready to work. In these events our instructors 

WILL NOT catch up the riding lesson missed unless in the event of 

an EMERGENCY. Our 24 hour notice period enables the instructor 

to then book in another student who might have missed a lesson and 

thus the instructors’ time is not wasted as ALL our instructors work 

on a commission basis with regards to lessons given. 

• Clients: Please remember if you would like to discontinue riding 

lessons or stabling at CEC we need to receive one CALENDER 

months’ notice / payment in advance. 

• All horses and ponies are due for their 2nd Deworming during April 

2018. The deworming will be administered after our CEC training 

show as we normally have outside horses attending the shows.
